In order to learn how to make complex sculpties, I've been making simple sculpted prims in AC3D, using standard SL models. While incredibly easier to use then Blender, I have one minor problem after I upload the sculpt maps to SL.
When I apply the sculpt map to a prim, it takes the shape I've created, but offsets the shape from the center of the area box, usually to the bottommost corner, as far back along the X axis as possible and still be within the area box.
Anybody with experience with AC3D have any idea why it does this, and how I can fix it? It's quite difficult to place a prim whose "center" is nowhere near the actual visable shape, but offset along the X and Z axises.

It's been 15 years since I did any work in autocad, and I'm curious, how are you generating the sculpt map? Are you importing it into blender after working in autocad? If so, I believe (but am not sure) that you can adjust the centering by moving the object while in edit mode (not object mode) in blender.

The sculptmap is obviously created with a limited color range and the used tool just shifts the whole mesh relative to one of the lower edges of the bounding box. I guess the tool does it in order to preserve scaling. While i can not tell how to cure the problem in AC3D directly, i can tell that there are tools available which can import such a sculptie and readjust it to use the full color range. For a stand alone tool you might look at http://www.imitidicthulhu.it/CoOLLISIONpage.htmlBlender with primstar would do it too as Johan already mentioned before. I would readjust the center of an object in object-mode (Object -> Transform -> Center new). The bake tool for blender/primstar takes care about centering and scaling by itself.

Opps, I meant object mode.. wasn't sure, but I knew it was one of them. Makes sense since the centering tools are available there.

Thank you all for your ideas and advice!
This evening, I went through this thread and tried every reply's advice, systematically. While I'm sad to say that none of them worked for me, I was able to solve the problem. I'm going to post the solution here, in case anyone else like myself ever finds themselves in a similar situation.
When I was first educated in AC3D ver 6.4.30, I was told to always export as a "Second Life Sculpted Prim," because any other type, even the other Second Life prim apps, would "explode" my prim upon uploading. I guess the person tutoring me had unique problems with that - a glitch, or broken copy.
On a friend's advise, by exporting the sculpty as a "Second Life Normalized Sculpted Prim," instead, it centered perfectly, creating the effect I hoped for. A simple solution, I know, but don't they say that hindsight is always 20/20?
