Offsetting land fees (re: tiers)

OK these forums are confusing -- I thought that there was a land/money/economics discussion area but I'll be damned if I can find it, so this is going here.

In the FAQ or somewhere (you try to remember in which document you find which info, ugh), is a reference to the ability to offset land fees by using $L instead of real money.

Where is the interface to allow this? I don't think I have ever seen it, either on the web or in-game.

Left hand side of the screen, L$ for Land

Heh, sheesh, now I think I must have had pauper's blindness or something. As in, I'll have to start earning L$ before I can do that. I wonder if I should take up gambling?

It's "cheaper" to sell L$ on GOM and use the resulting US$ to pay for your land tier.
