Hey it's been way too long, but I got the new version finished. The only thing that is missing is full PvP, but I have build support for it, and I only need to finish the targeting system. But I also made a transfer-system so I can update the backpack and your stats are transfered to the new version (after a visit to the transfer station).
I'll be deleting the demo today or monday, and next week will be testing with a bunch of people (like 5 or 10 people, IM me if you're interested)
The week after that I hope to have finished the testing and I can make the last changes and open up the game :) I almost implemented all the things that players asked for and even more. Therefor I had to recreate the whole backpack, mosters and other stuff and that took longer then expected (also I didn't do anything in december etc.

These features made it into the new version

fighting
same as previous, click to attack. I've build in some extra variables so monsters can stay exactly in one room (even if it's non-square) and they also don't attack outside that range. They don't attack when you're too much diffrence in height (flying above them). Ofcourse if a monster can't attack you, you can't attack the monster.

New Stats
The old stats (attack, defense, speed) are also there. The attack-stat determines your max Health.
damage
Cannot be leveled up, it is the base damage, with no weapon it's always 5, and weapons upgrade this stat
magic defense
higher means less damage when a monsters attacks with magic. This stat also determines your max Mana.
light magic
higher means more effective when you help a friend with friendly magic
dark magic
higher means more damage when you attack a monster with magic
magic block
it blocks x% of all magic attacks (non-friendly) limit is 66%
you can only get this from magic spells or rare magic items
attack block
it blocks x% of all normal attacks limit is 66%
you can only get this from magic spells or rare magic items
fire- water- earth- wind- darkness- attack and defense
Monsters can have elementals. For example a fire spider would attack with fire elemental and be weak to water attacks. You can create elemtal weapons and shields with special items you find on monsters, in the elementary guild. Most dark magic also have an elemental (for example fire magic). Also you can temporary upgrade these with magic spells. There are also some rare magical items that give permanent elemental capabilities.

Custom levelup
Each levelup you gain 5 levelup points. You can upgrade 5 stats with it at any time you want. The stats that can be upgraded with levelup points are: attack, defense, light magic, dark magic, magic defense, and speed. The rest of the stat can be upgraded with weapons, armor, spells and magical charms.

Magic system
Monsters can attack you with magic, but you can also aquire scrolls and spells. If you buy a scroll with a spell it is added to your backpack. You can cast 1 time from each scroll. If you learn the spell from a book (much more expensive ofcourse) you can use it as much as you like. Magic spells use mana.

Helping friends
You can now target a friend so you can use potions and light magic on him/her.

Sharing
You can share with a max of 2 friends. This means that all the gold and EXP you aquire is divided between you and your friends. If your friends also pick you for share you basically have a group. (Sorry folks I can't do real groups with LSL)
Also a level 20 person cannot share with a level 5 (must be within 5 levels of diffrence). This wouldn't be fair to newbies that don't have high-level friends running around.

Giving gold
You can give gold to other players. My intention was to create a good trade system for items, but that's not possible with LSL. So if someone has a cool sword for sale, you just have to trust eachother to get the deal done. Perhaps if it really doesn't go well that way I'll think of something more secure, which would involve a DarkLife administrator to witness the deal and punish/ban people who try to cheat with it.

Selling items
You can now sell most equipment back to the shop if you want to get rid of it. Ofcourse the price you get is not so high, so it might be a better idea to sell to another player.

Stat-check
To prevent high-level players to give kickass weapons to newbies there's a stat-requirement for most higher-level weapons. It can be a combination of any stats (including level). This also prevents someone who only leveled up his attack and defense to buy high level spells (effectively you can become a warrior or a Mage, or a Healer). But beware some monsters are going to have big diffrences in magic defense and normal defense (for example ghosts at the graveyard aren't really sensitive to physical attacks.

Transfer station
As I said I also made a transfer station (well at least the code for it). If I make a new version of the backpack everyone will get a message about it and their backpacks will be disabled. You can get a 'upgrade-backpack' and if you follow instructions at the transfer station carefully you'll be playing with your own stats, potions and magic spells like nothing happened within 30 seconds.

Weapon special effect
I haven't done anything with it yet, but with the new version there's the possibility to create weapons that have an added effect like magic every time you hit. This would be great for very high level weapons :D

FEATURES in the future (soon):

PvP. Diffrent styles of PvP fighting. You cannot activate PvP any time you want, it depends on the area you are in. I will make a special area for free-style PvP fighting.
In one area the EXP you lose when you die goes to the person who made the killing strike.
In another area you cannot gain or lose EXP, it's just for fun and practise.
In the arena can only be fought when there's a tournament, I'll make sure to script some kind of control room so I can let other people host the actual tournament when I'm not around to do it. The tournament can be any kind of fights, chosen by your host (think, one on one, free for all, group fight etc. etc.) You can win all sorts of prices there like L$, DarkLife gold, levelup points, rare items etc. etc. I'm also going to try to make a scoreboard on a website. But as you can imaging before this will al work we'll be a few monts further :D But it is most defenitly possible and I will make it :D
Another idea I have is a FF7 style combat area, where fight monsters one by one, and they keep getting stronger, you can stop between any monster, but the bonus you can get goes up exponentially. If you die (or stop playing) you don't get any points at all.

Backup system
in the future I will also make a backup system that can mail your stats to my server, so if anything might happen I can look up the stats you have etc. Also I can use that data to generate a leader board for DarkLife. This is also future talk, don't expect it any time soon.

Almost forgot: Quests
Some DarkWood people have shown interest in creating quests for DarkLife, we'll have to discuss the details, but I'm certainly going to make some code to make these things possible :)

the bad news is Pirate Cotton is going away for a month right now, so I might need a new partner in crime. If you are interested and you know a lot about RPG's you can help me out with balancing the game (thinking about weapons, stats, monsters etc.) and setting up all kinds of things. However this in no way means you can help script the backpack, monsters or Weapons, or get access to the any code.

You have worked hard though Mark, not so many people could or maybe even would do something like this. This version will bring lots of RPG lovers into Darklife. Check the message I sent you.

Great tedd, I'll meet you inworld next week. I've deleted the stuff from the demo, so we can start next week.
I can't play in the weekends but I'll be doing some thinking about how to start and how to keep balance in the equipment we sell...

Mark,

Where is DarkLife located? I'd like to play, but I don't know where you are in-world.

I was also thinking about how an RPG project would be implemented in SL, but I would have used L$ instead of 'gold'. Was there a reason to use game-specific economy instead of the built-in one?

Thanks!

think about it. Where would all that L$ come from?

DarkLife is located in DarkWood, but it's being set up. It might take a couple of weeks before you can play, because I'm kinda busy with my study at the moment.
