Renting Land

I've been playing for just under a day, and I'm pleased with what I've seen. I've made a few things already and I've got a good hold on how to use the building tools. When I have learned how to use the scripts, I would like to be able to have a little place to build things and sell things. Since I am only on the basic account plan at the moment, I can't buy land, so can I rent land to build a house on or do I just have to go for a pre-fab apartment?

Thanks for any help in advance.:D

You can even buy land if you want on the basic account. You just have to pay the monthly tier level for the amount of land you buy.

Well the reason I joined the basic account was so I wouldn't have to pay monthly, which, at the moment, I can't afford. I will be able to soon though.

I did find someone who let me have some land to stay and build on though, and I've found a marketplace where I can get a stall, I think.

Thanks.:D

I'd like to hear more success stories about people renting land to basic account users. I've seen several appartment style building with "for rent" signs up, but it's always hard to tell if people are actually using the space or if the owner is trying to make it look that way.

My definition of success by the way is not in making L$, but just acheiving some level of cooperative cohabitation without the place getting all trashed up or having the "renters" at odds with one another.

I'm contemplating doing something like this with my 4096, but I don't want to get into something that would require a lot of my time as "moderator".

How you deal with prim limits for example?

Well for the Europa Apts I made, I bought the land. Made the builds (not too high, I prefered to have three lower towers to one big one) and then I devided the amount of prims left on the land by the number of apts. Worked out at 100 each.

Then I created a group for all potential residents, so I could return other people's objects easily.

Only problem is with most being new, they didn't always set the objects to the group, but reminders helped that.

As for renting, I chose to let them out for free, but it's not proving as good as I previously hoped as once they have spent time moving in they tend not to come in often at all.

So I may start a "moving in fee" rather than a weekly fee, to help out a little with my other newcomer projects.

Digeridoo Tower, for the 2 months I managed it, was successful in keeping full and having the cooperation of all the tenants.

Grignano Towers has been as well, although it's a bit of a chaotic mess at the moment (haven't been able to manage it as thoroughly as I would like, and there's a ton of vacancies since building the 2nd tower).

All one needs to do to keep apartments "tidy" is a watchful landlord.

Garth and I have built 10 cottages in various locations in Taber. We charge $25 a week as a means to keep track if they still need the cottage.

I send them an IM reminder once a week that rent is due. If we do not hear from them in a reasonable time, I return their furniture. We had plots for each cottage, but about a month ago merged all into the main FairChang Hall property.

We allow them aproximatley 100 prim per cottage.

We don't view it so much as a commercial venture but as a way of having Taber look like an lived in village. Jai Nomad also has 3 cottages in Taber.

IS THIS A PENDING DIVORCE ?!?
05-24-2004 08:34
I just got a cottage I built returned to me by my Hunny?

Is she hinting that a divorce is pending and I should find land to put it on?

But this does not top her house duplicating skills or house painting skills (ask Ramon for that one) ;)

Pituca !! WHY ?

Oops, Not true Sugar!! It was an accident!

While flying around yesterday a green triangle jumped out of nowhere and attached itself to my feet. I couldn't delete as I was over Khamon's land. So I went to our land but snagged the cottage by mistake!!

Forgive me

At least I didn't get our house,,hehe.

Dan, in addition to the other reactions to your post : even if you dont own any land you can always go to the Cordova sandbox and build whatever you want :) Just be sure to name it and put it in your inventory before you leave, because everything left there gets wiped at 3 AM !
