There's a LOT to explain. This is going to sound like a put-down, but that's really not what I intend. Here's what I suggest.....

1. Run out to the closest mall, find the bookstore, and get yourself a good Photoshop manual. There are loads of them, and many of them are good, so it doesn't make much difference which one you get. Just find one that seems readable to you. Then spend some time working through tutorials, exercises, and anything else to get the basics of Photoshop under your belt. This is absolutely your first step, because it will take anyone else much too long to walk you through Photoshop.

2. Go to the Texture Tips forum, where questions like this usually appear. There are some GREAT stickies at the top. Read them carefully --- especially the one on file formats and sizes and the one on transparency. A very large number of questions that are posted to that forum are from people who haven't taken the time to read those two stickies and understand what they mean.

3. Download the SL avatar templates -- also in a sticky at the top of the Testure Tips forum. You will need those for making any clothing in SL.

4. Start looking for tutorials on making jeans. You'll find some in the tutorial sticky, an you can find others plus a mess of great tips by doing a search of that forum's archives. (Select "Search This Forum" and use an obvious keyword like "jeans" or "pants.";)

5. With all of that behind you, try making some pants. If you have problems at that point, post a qustion to the Texture Tips forum. Post loads of them. There are some wonderfully helpful people there.

I really hope this doesn't sound like I'm dumping on you. It just sounds like you have to study a lot of the basics before you can do what you want to do. You could just leap in and try things at random, or someone could give you a "push this button" set of directions, but I think you'll learn faster and be better at making clothes if you take time to do it right.

Have fun. ;)

have to agree, cutting a super clean alpha channel takes months, hell even years, of practice, that is if you want to do it perfectly. it isn't some automated process that you just cue, photoshop is an art among to itself, going on some 10 years myself and I learn new things in it all the time. it is even estimated that the average person even knows about 30% of it's features. even in my design class that does outline photoshop, we are always teaching our professor macros, keyboard shortcuts, there is so much to learn, I would go for a book too, that is unless you take a weekend crash course, which most design schols do offer, and you realistically can learn the program in a weekend, but there are so many ways to do the same thing, that you will always be building on that knowledge
