Interest in a centralized Art Gallery? Or SL Museum of Fine Art?

I've been wondering what to do with my land -- I don't want it to just be my house. I thought about opening a shop, but I don't think I have the constitution nor the building skills to create the inventory, yet. However, after looking through several of the shops I noticed that this is a great place to show off original artwork, but I haven't seen too much of it in the world. This started me thinking about building a kind of "SL Museum of Fine Art" where artists can place their work for viewing and possible sale. It would be dedicated purely to original artwork -- no Monets or Van Gogh's, etc. I suppose I'm thinking in terms of "pictures" that folks can buy to include in their houses but also in terms of small sculpture or building projects (small enough to fit inside the gallery) that are meant as art. The possiblities get really large when I begin thinking about it, of course, considering the scripting and other options inside SL. The details are, obviously, not worked out entirely.

I suppose that I would be manager of the space and would recruit some other art-minded folks to help with choosing the pieces to go inside to insure that the work is original, etc.

I'm curious if anyone is interested in this kind of space? I want to guage interest before I begin construction. But I would also love to hear any ideas that ya'll might have about this kind of project.

I have a semi-large hillside/seaside spot of land in Immaculate which I think would be a lovely setting for this kind of project.

Thanks!!

Hi Zana, I would like to work on something like this. We will have to find some time to talk it over in world. l am not much of an "artist", but I do enjoy digital photography, and do get compliments on my photos. Perhaps a wing of original photography might be in order?

I have seen a couple of galleries, but they have featured work found online by known artists. I love the idea of bringing original, personal works into the world.

Anyone already have a gallery like this? Lets have a gallery tour :)

Of course, Loki -- photography is one of the major forms of visual art, after all! Next time you see me on please come by or give me an IM and we will chat about the space. Anyone else have any ideas? Thanks!

I think this is a great idea Zana. I would love to see more original art by second-lifers in-world.. and I'm also an artist myself and would love to have another venue to possibly show my work. I've been planning to show my work in my own personal gallery but i think a centralized gallery / museum would be great too - to see a wide range of artists at once.

I'd be happy to help out with this project in some way...

Devlyn,

I'm in Immaculate, if you want to drop by :). I'll post the coordinates for you after I log out tonight. Maybe you and me and Loki can get together and bang out some ideas :).

I used to have an SL art museum, but no one ever came to it. Strangely enough, it was in Immaculate too. I still have almost all of the stuff that was contributed in my inventory, even though it's not much. Hopefully you'll be more successful than I was. Maybe there will be more of a desire for it now that we are live.

Anyway, good luck with it, and IM me if you want me to find out ifI can put up some of the pieces that were donated to me.

P.S. If you are accepting sculptures, I have... um... 4-ish. Oh, and you might want to try to keep some outside room open for large sculptures, if you're accepting sculptures, that is.

For photography each person could get one spot; with a script that allowed SLers to scroll through the photographs.

That may help keep the photography section from getting out of control.

I'm so excited about the interest in this project. The building is set up and we are having our first opening show with Kitra Kothari on July 30 at 5:00. Please come on by and we'll chat. If you want to get on the rotation list for a show, please let me know and I'll get you on it :).
