Good day,

just wondered if this is possible? I thought it was for some reason however I can't import gifs via SL...

Was I dreaming again or am I doing something wrong?

You are correct Paul. As far as I know, you cannot import GIFs into SL.

However, some people have come up with ways of simulating animations. I don't know if anyone has shared the info on how to do it though.

There are 2 answers to your question. Gif files cannot be uploaded. To do this convert the Gif file to Jpg or Tga. Animated gifs can be done in SL with the use of a Texanim script. Its not a gif file but has the same appearance as one. The script plays a texture in little frames giving the appearance of animation. Wanna see some good examples of this? Check out my animated art gallery...DNA Animated Art Gallery. If you need help with the script I can give you some pointers on how its done.

See Angel Leviathan's thread about her TV's. She has opensourced the idea, and I'm sure you could take ideas from her tutorial and work them into other objects.

Remove that link NOW. That wasnt her script and is infact copyright infringment. However, it is rather easy to make an animation GIF image, check out W-Hat in Baku for some really nice examples.
