Can sculpti's be used to 'mimik' the look and feel of the ground? what im going for is a skybox with a more realistic lookin beach
currently i use cyl. sand covered on there sides to create 'sand dunes' but its not nearly as nice lookin at a real sl ground looks
any ideas?

any ideas? It's doable to some extent but you'll have several serious issues: There's no support for sculpted planes which is what you actually need. This can be worked around though. Unfortunately you'll have to wait until compression artifacts are a thing from the past or the workaround will fail miserably. The showstopper though is physics. Due to how physics work for sculpted prims it's highly unlikely you get it to work properly. Still you could try to make the sculpted part phantom and have invisible normal prims to walk on. If I were you I'd wait until new sculpt tech becomes available. V2 is supposed to have planes and probably those planes will come with more suitable physics.

This is a terrasculpt I made called soft dunes. You can stretch it to change the intensity of the topology. Here it is with a snap showing invisible normal prims strategically placed to provide a way to walk. It is inexact in regards to the physics of course as it would remain unless you had an extremely close approximation. So walking all around on it would have you either walking above the sand or your feet disappearing. Yet there are so many things in SL that we do not directly interact with that comprise the visual environment that take up a massive amount of prims. Another way to approach it for example if you chose the higher elevation dunes would be to build the deck or path to direct your guests to walk upon.

I was actually thinking the same and wanted to come up with something like that - but I don't know why. I can build though. Is it easy to create? Would you be willing to sell me a sample so I can play with it. I hope I don't sound funny . Thx, Gina

Thank you very much. Going the the address on the slurl takes you to my store, I dont have the connecting tp set up yet to the display area. But if you just go outside the store to the front deck and look to the left there is a large display area with pillars where I have some set out for sale. Please excuse the plug.

I have a set of simple tools that can grab the height map from any parcel, or a full simulator, and creates a Sculpted prim. Easy and quick, open source as well. Does require you to have a working php enabled webserver.
Ping me inworld, or email to anjin at elzbiet.net
Cheers Anjin

I went there but did not see it, is it somewhere else?
