This may seem a stupid question,

I started two days ago and have absolutely no idea how to even begin building things or making money, the interface and everything else is such a big hit in the face i don't even know where to start.

If anyone could give me some advice as to how i could start building things and making money I would be very appreciative.

Suggestion: At the bottom of your screen, use the Search button. Go to Events tab, limit the search to Education, and see what turns up. There are usually basic building classes, some geared specifically to absolutely new builders, and frequently SL Q&A sessions - I used to go to the Q&As and get answers to questions I'd never thought to ask. Building classes are great, though. Walking through any build step-by-step helps you start to see what each function does, and most instructors are willing to check your build and explain where something went wrong.

There is a walk-through tutorial at the Ivory Tower of Prims (you'll have to use Search to find it, as I don't have that info handy) that I found a bit overwhelming until after I had a few basic building classes under my belt, and then it was very helpful.

You might also try a sandbox somewhere like NCI Kuula, where there are a lot of experienced and helpful people around.

Good luck with building, and welcome to SL!

As for making money, the easiest and most efficient way, especially if you are new, is to grease up your credit card and buy a few Lindens while you get started. Even just $10 US worth of L will keep you going for a while. There is very little you can do in SL when you are new that will make you an appreciable amount of money; most of what you can do will bore you out of your skull and make you just a few pennies per hour.

You don't need to make money, you can build things without spending a penny.

Look up the Ivory Tower of Primitives to get started building.

Defilitely visit the Ivory Tower of Primitives. And also Robin Sojourner's texture tutorial in the Livingtree sim.

For a quick stop that will get you a number of landmarks for building, texturing and scripting resources, as well as a simple introductory lesson on these topics, check out the publicly-accessible SL Orientation sim, "RUCE 1", that I built for Rutgers University. You can take the whole course if you want, or just ignore the progress tracker HUD and basic lessons and follow the trail across the river and past the first house you'll encounter. The next several stations on the trail are basic building, basic texturing, and basic scripting, with info notecards and links to other in-world instructional resource sites, like the Ivory Tower.

...and don't get frustrated when what you build initially looks like crap. My first house was pretty bad. Every time you build a turd, you learn how to polish it a bit better next time until you are making golden turds. There are a lot of tricks and shortcuts to learn that make things a lot easier and/or more efficient, and things you might think are impossible can be done with a bit of ingenuity. I'm sure even veteran builders still learn new things.

But in SL you're more likely to sell the turd if it's turd-colored. :D

So far as Second Life is concerned, you are a teenager again, no matter how old you are in First Life.

You have a lot to learn. Work hard, have fun, and you can get there; or you can go back to whatever you were doing before 8-)

good luck

Well.... that is more "predictable".
