I expect that this has been covered elsewhere, so please direct me to another thread or tutorial, and I'll be a happy clam.
How does an object determine where it will attach itself to your avatar? I made a necktie prim object, and when I position it to be at the neck, it seems to naturally attach itself there. After I've positioned it in the world, using the 'Wear' command makes it pop back to that location. However, having the necktie attached there makes for some weird clipping problems during movement, and I'd prefer to attach it to the chest area.
How do you establish where an object will attach, or how does an object determine its attachment point? Thanks!

Hi Rev. Welcome to SL. The first time you attach an object, the center of its root prim (last prim selected in the link set, the one that highlights yellow instead of blue when you select the object) will align with the avatar's attachment point. After that, you can move it wherever you like, and it will "remember" where you put it next time you use the "wear" function to put it on. Don't use the "attach" function after the first time, or you'll erase the positional data, and you'll have to position it all over again. So, if you want to attach your tie to your chest, you certainly can. Attach it to the chest, then right click on it and select "Edit", just like you would to move it any other time, attached or not. Then simply move it where you want it, and then leave it there. If you take it off after that, just make sure to "wear" it the next time; don't "attach" it again. To make positioning easier, I'd suggest getting or making a posing stand, also known as a poser stand, or a pedestal. I've got a very basic one that I made, which I can give you if you'd like, or there are much more advanced ones that you can buy. What posing stands do is they halt all avatar movement when you stand on them, so you can precisely align attached objects without worrying about the av jumping around.

Thanks, Chosen! Exactly what I suspected, actually, but I wanted to get confirmation.
Yes, I have a posing stand, it was oh-so-helpfully included in a free clothing pack that a greeter gave me on one of my first visits. Works great!
