The Second Life Transit System has been hard at work for the past few days on a Monorail system for use in Second Life. A test track has been built in Minna, at the North eastern corner. We did a test run tonight, and we are very pleased with the results. We have plans for a line going from the test line to the boardwalk, and then we will continue it to Lindenburg, then to the sports sim, and finally stopping in Morris, at the new newbie spawn site.
We are desperatly in need of funds, so, if you have any money you can donate to us, please contact me, James Miller, co-founder Josh Starseeker, or Pat Murphy, our scripter. Also, Linden Lab, we are looking for permission from you to use a lot of your land, as well as a grant for this project. Please contact us or reply here with a way for us to contact you.
Any questions/comments/concerns, please post them here.

Oh so that's what that is. heh. I have land in Minna right next to your test site and have been wondering what you guys were doing. Hmmm, this seems very interesting. I might have some small amounts of cash to donate...

Heh, I have seen you over there Callig, was wondering when you are gonna come over. Donations would be *GREAT*! BTW, We have deleted all of our test traack except one curve, as we are now working on a simple line from 4-Corners Arena to Avatar Central, in downtown Natoma. The line will only take about two minutes to travel by monorail. The pylons(Support Beams) are currently in place, and we are stating to lay track. The shell of the new monorail is also on display (I built that part, I am very proud ). You can all come on over, ride the working prototype, vote, give donations, etc.

This looks like fun. I've been warned that the tricky thing will be transporting avatars accross region boundaries. On the other hand, it's kind of fun when everyone gets thrown off. Good luck!

You will get my help for sure on this project, as I was the one to start the idea off. But I can't say that I will be online as often as I was for the upcomming weeks, as I have my finals comming up soon. Any time after April 17th, I will mostly be on 24/7. Come by my place when I am online and I will donate a $1000 to the project.

Jason, that would be great! The Green Line, which is currently from the NE Minna Station going to a station in Downtown Natoma, just next to the Avatar Central Store is now complete. We have been doing extensive tests on the train, and we think we are very close to completing it. We have had quite a few derails, including a very large one in which Peter Linden and myself were onboard and we fell into a lake. Sorry Peter! I took the train a bit too fast on that curve heheh Wanna see our progress? Stop by NE Minna during hours and we will probably be there working. Also, please let us know if you wanna donate. Also, I have a question for you all...how do you feel about fares on the monorail...how much, if anything, would you be willing to pay for a ride on the monorail? Thanks

Haney there is some good news tho....At Fenik's event we all took a ride on Xav's Heli. and it went nutz and went off of its intended path. Which ultimatly ended up with a few av's thrown off but then after they were thrown off, a few of us remained on as we crossed a sim line. So it seems very possable that there might be some good chances that this may survive the sim crossings

Charlie, we have done some tests, and it appears that the bug that would have caused avatars to be thrown off our monorail has been fixed in this newest version. We are very pleased, as we will be able to have inter-sim monorails. We did keep having the train derail once it went into the new sim, but, we now know how to prevent this.

Hi Raptor, sorry about that. There were a bunch of other people on it at that time, and, its still a bit laggy in our area.

Awww... if you hadn't found the problem, I was going to suggest an soundclip that auto-triggered as the monorail approached the sim borders... mainly that of screaming, panicking passengers.

Very cool James - Soooo I'll be able to climb on top of one of the cars and launch my hang glider? Maybe design some launch-platforms on top of a sepecially designated car - which would work for other personalized vehicles. Im interested in your progress to gain deeded access throught the LL's land...Gee, talk about the possibility of speculation... (Psst. did year hear that a monorail deeded access is about to go through this property that you're thinking of buying...)
