I want to attach 2 flexi prims to an existing physical linkset. I am able to do that by forcing the linkset to stay still with a script, but afterward the last flexi I added becomes the root prim. I can't figure out how to keep the original root prim.
If I turn off physical, I can unselect and reselect the root prim so it remains root, but of course, the flexi prims don't remain flexi when I turn physical back on. If I unlink the set while physical is turned on, the whole linkset falls apart in pieces on the ground.
Is it possible to do what I want?

When you link stuff, select the one you want to be root last.
So, if you've got OrigObject, NewObject1 and NewObject2, click on NewObject1, ctrl-click on NewObject2, ctrl-click on OrigObject then do ctrl-l to link them together. If you do that, the root should not change.

It sounds like the basic question is not about which prim is the root, but about which is most important to you: flexi or physical.

I was told you could have flexi and physics, and just tryed it in world And it works. take your physical object, set to physical. Now take your flexible bit, set to flexible. select the flexie first, then your physical object and link. I turned physics off and on, and it stayed togather, physics and flexie intact. I do have a worry though, and hope that someone who owns a sim will try this and report back if we are inadvertently melting down a bank of servers somewhere

If it works, great!
Sounds like something LL didn't intend, though, so beware of it suddenly stopping to work someday.

I was able to attach the flexi prims and retain the original root by making sure I selected the physical linkset last, as suggested here. It does work, and the root prim was retained. I was relieved to find it worked that way.
I did some testing while watching the stats readout and I saw no increase in sim activity or lag while using the finished build, so my brief tests seem to indicate it's safe. Thanks for the suggestions and the help. It *is* possible to have a physical object with attached flexis, which is just great.
