Hello x3 I dont know if this go here or in texture thread, but here is my question, I made a texture for a sculpt but I need to some parts to be transp, anyone know is there a way to keep to those part's Transp when you bake the Texture for the Sculpy in blender or the only way to get this is using a external paint program like Photoshop ?

I myself am not very experienced in making textures, but i have played around a bit and in principle alpha textures can be done. You could start with adding a material and play with the alpha settings in the Shading buttons. You could add textures with alpha channel, you could create alpha masks, work with layers... Then assign different textures to different parts of your objects... If the textures have alpha, it will be propagated to the baked texture... Once you have baked your image with alpha, you will want to export it. There is a caveat here: Before alpha can be exported, go to the Scene buttons (F10) and lookup the format tab. there you find a button labelled [RGBA]. You must enable it (the default settings are [RGB] only). Now images will be exported together with their alpha channel. I know, that was not a comprehensive answer, but maybe it pushes you into the correct direction ? |

Open the sculpty map in photoshop, click on the channels palette, create a new layer in there and draw, type or paste a design in black on the areas you want to be opaque. Save as 32bit TGA and upload.

When I want to texture my sculpties (and I have done alphas on some of them), I use a texturing grid.
Texturing grids can be found all over the net and in-world. I apply the texturing grid to my sculpty in game, then take a copy of the same grid into (in my case) Paint Shop Pro. I then flick between SL and PSP to find out where I want the transparencies to appear, then paint to my hearts content in Paint Shop. Another way you can do it, is instead of flicking back and forth between sl and graphics program, take some snapshots of the sculpty with the grid on it, save them to harddrive and then you can work offline whilst painting away. It's a bit like "adult paint by numbers" =) Good luck. **edit** If you want to have shadows baked on the texture, do them in blender on a plain white surface. Take that into the graphics prog too and paste it on a layer above your texture, then use blending options to make it look better. Hope what I put makes sense, hopefully it does =) |

Are you asking how to create transparent parts on the texture, or are you asking how to export the alpha channel when saving the image ? hmm I'll say a bit of both, what I wan to make this, I made the texture using PS, now that texture I made have some transparent parts when I import that Image ( I use this method: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2008/05/12/blender-surface-textures/#more-12 to create my textures)to blender for bake the proper texture for that sculpt but thise areas dont keep the transparent part when I done Bake it. |
