What are some oblong shape settings for section and span for maya?

For best results, stick with powers of two, with 16x16 as your base square. If you cut one dimension in half, double the other one (8x32). If you quarter one demension, quadruple the other (4x64). Don't forget to set your sculpt map size to reflect the surface proportions (64x64, 32x128, 16x256).

okay lets say i made a nurbs sphere which was 4x64 what would be the sculp map dimension? Is there a form of formula with nurbs dimension that = map dimensions. I'm not much of a mathmatician

I just gave you the formula. 16x16 sections & spans is your base square surface resolution, and 64x64 is your base square map resolution. If you halve one side, double the other. If you quarter one side, quadruple the other.
4x64 means you quartered one of the 16's, and you quadrupled the other. 4 is 16/4. 64 is 16x4. Now do the same thing with the map. 64/4 is 16. 64x4 is 256. So the map would be 16x256. Make sense?

with what i have made in maya it looks to be pretty good in detail since im doing my work on its lowest quality (1) to be exact so i get the best lod in SL. I have objects made in world if you want to check them out in the beta test grid.
