Just wondering if there was a market for planned communities... like subdivisions... similar-themed homes around a small area, fed into a bigger plaza area, making things a bit more neighborly and friendly.
Eh?

Take a look in Taber.. I think it is happening amongst small groups of friends already but I'd like to see more of it though. It makes the world more cohesive. We have had nothing but positive feedback from folks floating past, seeing what we are up to there.
Were you considering a career in town planning Lordfly?

back when I was a little kid I wanted to be an urban planner as a career... I LOVE the Simcity series (the original game that spawned that ridiculous monotony game The Sims)... it's my most favorite game series of all time, ever So, yeah, I love planning/building. LF

Lordfly, I had an idea that I think kind of fits into this concept. I'll try to catch you in game and talk to you about it.

Many people want to play SL this way. It is not possible to do so in Second Life because too many others think they are free to come in and do what they want no matter what the zoning laws or guidelines given to an area say. There are huge areas in SL set up for those who want to experiment with any kind of weird structure they want. They are allowed to experiment with building styles that range from the 'interesting' to the downright ugly. I enjoy seeing others's creations even though they might not be in my taste or I might not want to dwell in an area that looks too weird. However, I feel I have the right to group with others and plan my own pretty and peaceful community to live in.
Doesn't work in here. Even the existing communities with zone restrictions have people come in who constantly do what they want with the land. I live in Boardman because it has building guidelines, but there have been so many people who have ignored those guidelines. I can't understand why this would happen since there are so many free build areas in SL. Why do some people just have to take over the entire world or leave their mark in every area of the world? When I go to the outlands I expect and accept anything I see or that might happen while there. When someone visits a planned community they should have the same respect for how others want to play this game.
Good luck with your planned community. I really hope it works out for you.
