What's the monthly cost in real dollars per month of linden land that's, like, 48sg.m, Dwell:8 ?

You'd have to either have a premium account (9.95/month) or the lowest land teir (512m2 for either $3 or $5...can't remember which one.) It's pretty cheap to hold that small amount of land. Oh, and the dwell doesn't have any effect on the monthly costs. :)

So you're saying that to build on a land,
you either have to
1. Have a premium account.
Or
2. Have the lowest land tier. (Which is the same as Land for Landless?) >>>>>> So if you have this, you don't have to pay $10/month, only $5 ??

Land for the landless has nothing to do with the land tiers, it's just a program to give free plots of land out. Which is a good thing from LL's perspective because then everyone with a basic account holding a piece of land pays $5 a month. The premium account isn't really worth it until you own a bigger chunk of land. Give me a minute or two and I'll do the math and give you a more precise answer, but yes, you can own up to 512m2 for $5.00 a month.
