So I am flicking through the 'BUILD' section of the new website, and I SEE MY BIKE! I build and design motorcycles and my 'horndog' motorbike is on there, but there is some guy (not me) taking apart the peices of a bike with no mod, no copy.

hmmm - lindens, why is that happening? Did anyone plan to ask me about this?

:(

happy about the press - but no one knows it's mine!

Well that's not reassuring if the Lindens don't even honor our permissions. Actually, I've heard two other accounts where Lindens have stole scripts from users for use in their builds.

And? What are the Lindens going to do, resell them?

The worst that would happen is Ryan/Colin/Ben/Philip takes a look at it, goes "good idea!", and passes it around the office. I've got a sneaking suspicion that that's what happened to Darwin's teleporting idea back in 1.0, which later became the telehubs. Just a conspiracy theory though.

Trent if we didn't get permission to disassemble your bike I apologize. We always ask before doing stuff like that and we endeavor to also ask on any screenshot, etc, that we post. We were moving quickly on this design and possibly the bike was given to someone internally who didn't know you hadn't been asked whether it could be dissasembled. Someone will contact you about this today, and if you want the image removed we will do so right away.

With regards to LL "stealing" content... does that really ring true to you? How silly - look at SL - are we competing successfully in the content creation business? Give me a break. All we ever do with content is try and effectively use if to better market SL, which grows the resident base, the content base, and creates new opportunities for the existing content creators. And with respect to feature ideas like telehubs, it is our full intent to listen to residents and take their best ideas and add them to SL as features. Isn't that the idea?

Ok I appreciate someone speaking with me about it. I had a mix of feelings from amazed to see my content there (in a good way) to 'hey, if they are using my content to "better market SL" which makes a tons of money, why shouldn't they pay me for it?

The bike in question was placed in a location that i know in SL but is not MINE. i have a garage, and this was someone elses, the AV was someone else, and the bike was being dissaasembled - I'm not really sure what will make me feel better - but i would like to discuss it with someone.

I dont think i ever implied 'theft' of any kind :) I'd agree that user content creation is above and beyond. Linden however is a business, and when you promise the rights of content creators, then turn around without consultation and use that content to further your own financial interests, it's disconcerting. You've effectively said that 'we can make content better than you' collectively. So why should you get to use that work to market yourself without compensation?

that's all I can think of to respond with at the moment, I hope to talk to someone soon :)

Phew, So glad Trent trusts me!

As far as I know. I have the only other copy of the Horndog with full properties as I scripted it.

I would also be more than a little upset to see a creation of mine on show in parts (or with a part missing). To see something used on the website is fine (as far as I am concerned) as we sell these items and that is fair game so long as it is as sold (as in complete).

Having said that. I am sure the Lindens will come to some agreement with you.

Keep the faith.

I have to admit, that thought is a bit disturbing.
