But I can't find it. I buried the root of a particle in the land. How do I unbury ? Can't reach it.

Use Alt-Shift-5 to toggle the ground on and off. This will let you see prims that are hidden underground. (On the Debug menu, go to Rendering | Types to see what other things you can toggle.)

And if you don't see a "Debug" menu in your menu bar, type... (Arg, I may be rong on this, if so try other modifier key combinations) control-alt-D to toggle it on and off.
