Right now I'm using Lightwave 9.0 to to make my sculptys and have a few basic questions. I tried searching the forum but couldn't find exactly what I needed to know. I'm building a shirt collar with an open front so I'm going to use two other sculpty's to make the connecting parts that meet where the shirt is buttoned.

For the collar itself though does anyone know of any tutorials on building that useing one object? Or do most people just make their collars out of two objects which would seem to be less time consuming.

This leads me to my next question. What if I want to mirror the object to create the other side of the collar? Can this be done and then giving it it's own uv map to be used as a sculpty? From what I've seen in one tutorial it seems you have create the uv map with, (create new uv option) first. Then, (check the option make uv's as you create the object.)

you can use endomorphs to morph the default sculpty then mirror and do the same
in SL you can also mirror sculptys with the check box
you should be able to make your collar with one sculpt using a torus shape as your sculpt
to make your own UV maps you need to split them correctly and unwrap em so they make a square filled UV map i havent seen a tutorial for that as its easy to shape the default shape for me at least

Thank Valkyrie. Thing is I want the front of the collar to be open. So I'm not sure how that shape would work to start from. I'm trying to imagine how I would have to start and edit the shape since I can't add geometry. Best idea I've come up with is using a rectangle and curving it around the neck with the bend tool as a start so I have an open front.

About the uv's, ok. I thought there was some special reason you had to work with them that way due to sl and sculpty's. So I can just mirror it, edit the object if I want. Then make it's own uv map to be used as a sculpty?

you can start with a flat plane sculpty and bend that way
or make it your way then make an endomorp and cut a seam and spred out the mesh into a square and make it a UVmap i saw a turorial for this ill see if i can find it
