Finding small objects

I'm trying to hide objects on my land to make them hard to find and am hoping that the only way people will find them is by using the zoom on their camera controls. But I need to know if there is anyway that someone could cheat and find them by using some sort of device or tool other than the camera controls that come standard with SL?

It depends on where you hide them and who is looking. If I knew there was something to look for on your land, my first thought (after a quick visual scan) would be to use the edit tools to highlight objects in selected areas. That makes it easier to separate prims visually from surrounding textures on other objects, grass, etc. If I suspected that you had put somethings underground, I might try turning off Advanced >> Render >> Surface Patch (Ctrl_Alt-Shift-F5) to make the ground transparent. If I thought you had tried to hide objects by making THEM transparent, I would try Ctrl-Alt-T to make them visible as red objects. And, of course, if I had the right permissions on the land itself, I would open World >> About Land >> Objects, Refresh the list of people owning objects, and then select your name to highlight objects that you own, wherever you hid them.

Just a few ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure I would think of others once I started looking. The simplest, of course, is to use RL detective skills. Most people hide things in fairly predictable places (the key under the doormat, for example).

Phenicia, a couple of things. Due to LOD (Level of Detail) optimizations, avatars cannot look for small objects JUST by camming around. At some not-very-far distance (for very small objects, something like 20m) avatars cannot see small objects no matter how close they bring their camera.

Also, there are object scanners that one can wear to list the 16 closest objects next to you. Some of them you can give a filter to, so that only objects with a given name or owned by a certain person will show up. If there's a lot of objects around, using a scanner may miss things. But, there are people who always use them during hunts.

p.s. please don't crosspost, the single posting in RA was quite enough.
