Creating pants or underpants

3 times now I have tried to create new pants and new underpants using my own texture i've uploaded and each time it looks like it makes them just fine, but when I transfer them to my alt they come over as "undershirts"? I then log back into the avy that created them and they turned in to undershits as well???

Being very careful this time I click on the New Pants button to create new pants and there is an icon sure enough with an undershit by the New Pants? *beating head against the wall*

Am I doing something wrong?

dunno, but I can confirm a recent gift from a friend come out this way... in fact exactly reversed (undershirt layer was undepants icon, and vice versa)

If you're smart, you'll give the new clothing a helpful label like, .... oh, say, "Pants?" That way you don't have to rely on a capricious icon. :D

The clothing icons have always been unreliable.

Wow, that's frustrating. For two days now I can't even make a pair of pants or underpants without it showing up as an undershirt after i log back on.

but its not so much the icon as it is the clothing item. I even tried putting on the "undershirt" in error as a pants and of course they wont go on. I'm sure a work around would be to put the shirt on, but that's just sloppy and no one will buy it when they need a pants layer.

It's not something you can depend on or control. I've had stuff change in inventory after I bought it... one day the right icon, the next something different.

I know it's probably frustrating, and you might consider it "sloppy," but that's really your most reliable option. Personally, I never pay attention to the icons at all. When I create a pair of pants, I always name it something like "Pants - light blue - 7-8-09" so that I can search inventory for PANTS and find it if I need to, and so I have the creation date built into the name. Then I file it in either a PANTS folder or a folder for an outfit it was designed to go with. I do the same thing if I buy a pair of pants. If it doesn't have "Pants" in the name, I rename it. When your inventory is as large as mine is, my naming system makes it lots easier to find things and, Argent says, the icons just aren't reliable anyway.

so when you put those "pants" on that you renamed as pants are you wearing it really as a pants layer or are you having to sacrifice your shirt layer or undershirt layer or whatever it is that SL decided to change it as?

Only the icon changes. The wearable remains the same type and is on the same layer.

Exactly. If you make an item as New Pants, it's pants, regardless of what your icon says. I know that some people find the icons handy -- we've had this discussion in the forums before, and I've been beaten up -- but I just ignore them. All that counts is my own label.
