How to

I am not positive about what you mean, but I'm guessing you're talking about using a scripted tool to make a skirt with?

Either way, you can remove the ball from the middle of the skirt by editing the skirt itself and un-linking the ball from the rest of the skirt. This can be accomplished by:

1): Right-click the skirt and select "Edit" from the pie menu that pops up.
2): Check-mark the box that says "Edit Linked Parts."
3): Left-Click on the ball that you want to remove.
4): Click "Tools" on the menu bar at the top of the screen, then click "Un-Link" from that menu. (Alternatively, you can press the CTRL, SHIFT and L keys on your keyboard at the same time.)
5): This will un-link the ball from the skirt and it can then be deleted, leaving the skirt in tact. HOWEVER: If the ball was the skirt's root prim, the skirt will now assign itself a new root prim and if you have already aligned your skirt on your avatar, you will have to do so again.

Please consider that if you leave the ball, perhaps shrink it or something, then it can actualy make it easier to align the skirt on your avatar, and the ball itself will be hidden inside your body so it won't subtract from your appearance.

Thank you so much. I will try that. Now for my next question. Do you know anywhere there are tutorials for the new Looprez Deluxe Commercial Edition Package v0.81? I can only find them on older versions and the instructions are different. They are way different and I am spending a lot of time trying to figure stuff out on my own.
I cant figure out how to change the number of prims I want in the skirt. I dont know where to type the changes it says to type. The Script wont open and I am lost.

I'm not logged in right now, but I believe there is floating text over the ball before you rez your panels that tell you the command for changing the number of panels. Something like /1 number 10 (or whatever number you want)

I don't remember the directions for the updated version being that much different for the basics, but it's been awhile. I think there is a looprez group you can join inworld.

It does! lol But where do I type that? Ive looked in the edit panel that pops up but theres nowhere to change the number of prims there.
Im just happy people are responding to me on this board. :)

You type all the commands into chat. :)

ETA: You can get a list of all the commands by clicking on a panel while not in edit mode. I'd also second the recommendation to leave the center ball. It's much easier to adjust that way.

Ok, what happens when I leave the ball in is there is text above the skirt that still says "Please link ball to all panels" even though they are linked. Even when highlighted and I use the TOOLS drop down menu LINK isnt available to choose from so Im guessing its linked, it looks linked to me. I cant get rid of that text. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

uhh actually they are incredibly the same.

the commercial version of looprez is menu driven instead of command driven.

it still does the same thing as its free counterpart.

also the free version is open-sourced so you can actually find a copy of the script anywhere.

Are you actually typing in the command /1 done to finish the skirt? When you do that your skirt rises up higher than the one you were editing and the text then disappears. Keep the ball as it is the root prim and makes fixing the position easier when you come to wear the skirt.

Here's the tutorial I followed which explains all the commands:

Uhhh all I can say is that I dont quite understand scripts. This is new to me. It isnt like Photoshop. lol Sincerely, you dont need to be smart with me about it. Im just asking for some help. Everyone else seems to be quite patient about it. If you dont want to help me thats ok. Just dont respond. ;)

Let's see... you touch the stand and rez your panels, then link them and the ball all together. You'll see all your panels move inward to form the skirt. Then after you have the skirt the way you want it, you type the /1 done and the skirt should move up and away from the stand.... If you are somehow linking the new ball that the stand creates when you type /1 done to the finished skirt at the end, I think you would get the text you are talking about. Not sure how you would do this without noticing though since the skirt does move away from the stand. Once you've linked everything the first time, you shouldn't have to do it again.

The only time I've gotten floating text stuck to the skirt is when I took it into inventory too fast and didn't give the template script time to delete itself from the panel, but I think it said something different...

I'm glad I helped - I think that might be my first time!

You can also have the skirt panels linked by typing /1 autolink before rezzing the skirt. There is a delay for it to do it, but I find it easier than linking manually.

Being an organisational freak I also save my rezzed LoopRez stand back to the inventory with a name of the type of skirt I made. I can then rez it out and have an almost instant skirt without having to remember the individual settings. I don't link the stand and ball - just select them both in Edit mode and Take to Inventory, and it is then a coalesced object and rezzes out as normal.

Having said that.. I've only got 3 styles of skirt so far! I've been too busy with the easier pants suits :)

Another great place for information is Natalia Zelmanov's blog here - http://www.mermaiddiaries.com/ - just look under the tutorials list as she has many on offer.

The original question was about getting rid of the ball. This thread took off in a different direction once people understood that the OP really wanted to get rid of the floating text, but the first question is still a good one. Most of the time, it shouldn't matter whether the ball is there or not, because it ends up buried in the avatar torso. However, if you use LoopRez to make a tiered skirt (one that stacks two or three prim skirts to make a complex one), you might end up with a ball dangling embarrassingly between the avatar's legs. You could delete the ball, as Liani suggests, or you could just hide it. All you have to do is select it and apply a Full Transparency texture. The only thing you have to watch out for is that the ball is not a single prim, but is made of two or three of them, so you have to be sure the transparent texture is applied to them all.

The ball on mine is only one prim, but yes, I delete any extras if I make tiered skirts. I think the first response explained how to go about doing that. If I make a skirt without using the Looprez, I add a ball as the root too. :)

just a quick tip.

If you are adding a sphere as a root prim be sure to set it to zero rotation. for some reason SL always has 90 degree rotation on one axis

All of this info is a great help to me. I cant tell you how much I appreciate it. Its ok if it goes in a different direction as all the things you bring up are things I had questions about too. I just didnt want to come here and bombard everyone with my newbie questions.
My question was really about the text, not the ball. I just didnt know how to ask the correct question. Thanks so much you guys!! :D :D
