[EDIT] It's over in scripting tips now, where it belongs.

I guess you mean the library and thank god for moderation. You want to put a spamming device there????????????????????????????????

It'd be a real pain for legit users. Also, this can be defeated at present. It'll be silly to say how, but bear in mind: because an alt is a copybot at one time does not mean that the user will never log in as that alt with the regular client.

So what else would work? I read that the bot is like a regular avi in SL. How much like one? Looks like a sensor scan will find it as type AGENT. Does it show up as a visible av? Can you collision detect it? If not, this could be modified to use a volume detect prim to detect the real users, but if that will detect the bot as well, then it's no use.

Good point, Jesse...it's designed to be used consensually by hosts and guests in a venue. It's inconvenient, but I think for now, folks would rather have to touch a prim to shut a once-per-30-second message off (or just mute it) than have their avatar's phenotype stolen.

Desperate times, desperate measures, etc.

I did modify the SLExchange page to mention that this probably only works effectively against the "shareware" version of the bot, not the "value-added" version that's being sold on SLX.

My impression of the shareware bot is that it can't be handed control of a SL session mid-stream. So, for now, the idea that a given account may be sometimes human, sometimes bot doesn't seem to matter...if the account is being run by the current version of the bot, it can't mute the message. If it's being run by a human, it can't do its godcopies.

Again, this was meant as a very short-term fix. This is a HUGE issue, and like everyone else, I'm waiting to see what answer will emerge in the form of some mix of technology and LL policy.

[EDIT] Ziggy, the shareware bot rezzes a full avatar that responds to all TP requests. So, it'll show up on volume detect, agent scans, etc. But it can't mute, can't discriminate between IM command sources, and can't initiate touch events. For now.

[EDIT2] Oh. Duh. Yumi, I definitely need coffee. I see what you're saying.

I have not looked at the script to tell if this would be true, but I'm assuming that if you had two UNLINKED objects side by side, that the Copybot could copy them, but it could NOT save their positions relative to each other.

So if I don't want to have a fancy statue I created copied... I could simply unlink it into its individual prims..... the CopyBot would get all the prims but not know how to reassemble them into the original statue?

Just a thought. ;>
