Some of my former colleagues at a game company i used to work for was directed to this specific forum section not 40 minutes ago.

They were directed here by a rather high up editor of the PC Gamers magazine.

I myself used to work for Activision (loooooong before the Vivendi merger) and my friends who still work over there all came to the conclusion (along with the guy from pc gamer) that this has to fall under the (and i quote from the pc gamer mag guy) "Biggest single Virtual World PR disaster 2008".

Don't be surprised if PC Gamer writes a rather witty and scathing article about this whole OS debacle in the near future, count yourselves lucky Second Life is wholly owned by Linden Labs cause if EA, 2K or Activision had a vested interest in SL half of you would be out on the street...looking for another job.

contact the press

I have already contacted the Guardian and the BBC here in UK as they have both run stories on Second Life. The Guardian has twice promoted it now and that is how I came here. This story is about deceit - taking money from us by deception. It's about ignoring the community for profiteering. Its about being sucked into a corporation that does not give a damn! Write an email to your press! sign petitions. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD.

Virtual worlds PR disaster of the year! Well put!

And, of course, it's the third disaster in a row:

First, faulty engineering analysis (raise prim limits and rapidly increase the number of OS sims without discerning the consequences);

Second, faulty business analysis (need to charge more, not fix the root problem);

and, Third, way faulty Public Relations. What were they thinking with an announcement like this? Was anyone at LL thinking?

What's next, somebody will trip over a power cord somewhere in the back room and the whole grid will go down?

BTW, I've owned a four-pack of OS sims since long before the new pricing scheme and single sim sale scheme was put into place. When full prim island and OS prices and availability changed, I lost money big-time, but I didn't complain. I've always supported LL and gotten good support from them. But this is too much, too much incompetency and too out of touch with the user base. I look forward to the scathing articles--I might even write one myself!
