Okay, my partner and I just got word yesterday that due to the price change, our landlord is abandoning his 8 OS Sims. He will not convert them. I came here and read of may others who are going to abandon theirs as well.
And the people that lived on the sims are screwed.
Our OS sim, with its little garden, and beach and house and a view will be gone next week. And we have no place to go, except to search for a new place, and lose our paradise, or do we?
Many of the people that rented these sims in good faith are now out in the cold because they cant afford the price increase, and the landlords on the grid say they cant get people to stay. So they are not going to convert to full sims, and are just walking away from them.
Well, what about the tenants? what if some (like my partner and I) WANT to stay? What if some would even bite the bullet and pay the increase, or even more, would LOVE to have a full sim? What if some of us would GLADLY take 4 off your hands to convert back to a Full Sim? We would pay the conversion, and hell, maybe even put some bucks in your pocket?
My Partner and I are in this boat. We could never justify the setup fee for a full sim. BUT!!! We could justify paying the conversion fee and put some coin on top of that BACK into your pockets. Will anyone help the tenants who are being screwed too (through no fault of the landlords, that we understand) or will you just abandon these to protest the policy and leave a sour taste in ALL our mouths?
There has to be SOMEONE out there that is willing to swing a Deal for the Tenants out here that just want to have their own place to call home. We don't want to rent, run shops, clubs, or anything else but have a place to call our own. Yes its a Financial risk for us. But some of us, who have been good tenants, and are willing to take that risk. But instead we see people saying they will just abandon 20 or 30 or 4 or whatever amount of sims. Please! Some of us WANT to continue to have our paradise.
There has to be ONE person out there willing to take 4 of these that they plan to abandon, and help out the renters that have been faithfully paying and enjoying the benefits to continue to do so. My partner and I want to KEEP our home. Our old landlord even gave us the RAW file that IF we could find a way, we could restore our paradise and continue to have the House we built, after learning and trial and error. To continue to have our garden that we have spent thousands of lindens on to get just how we wanted. To continue to have our little paradise here.
So will anyone step up? Will anyone think of the tenants and help us? I am sure I am not alone in seeing a way out for some of us. For many, I know the tier is to high, but for some, that have the ability, how about working with us? Please!
"They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot."
All we want is our paradise back that we had.

Well..I'm not abandoning my open Sims
10-30-2008 20:03
and I'm not throwing out my tenants..I have two open sims, with my partner, and we have only two lots on each sim..with a house..furniture..the rest is all wilderness..animals..birds, rivers, mountains, you know ..the stuff Jack said should be there...*rolling my eyes*..and yep..we will go in the red each and every month..but we WILL NOT walk away..and WILL NOT push our renters out..they are friends now too..and unlike the Lindens..we dont' take people money and then mess with them..we are honest, loyal people just trying to build a dream here!

Sheesh, Dianne.. Keep it in the land sales forum..
Sorry this is happening to you, Kevin. Hope you find an honest estate that you can move to. They're out there and nothing in this mess is cast in stone yet.

Maybe so Sindy, but some of us are being tossed because the landlords are not waiting. Its a Tragedy in the making for us. But that doesn't seem to be remembered in the posts. I know that its more a Land Owner issue, and I am sure that they realize what it does to us, but I think we have not had our voices heard. And to be honest, I think we are done with renting. We will have our own sim, but I would rather put some coin in someone pocket.

It's being remembered by a number of people but we tend to get shouted down by the landlords that are angry about the price increase. I wouldn't doubt that the one who's not even giving you a chance to convert or pay the increase is among those that are shouting about how their rights are being violated. Ask around - there are some good landlords out there. Or if you do decide to make your own country, feel free to ask around here if you have questions..

To be honest Sindy, I think he has just lost faith. He has been amazing to us, and the others here, but I think he is tired, and hurt himself. And I think it has all just become too Much.
Cant say I blame him, if I was in his shoes, I would be tired and devastated as well.

Excuse me? not really sure what that little quip of yours means..perhaps you can't read well..or you have a disability that doesn't allow you to see that I was trying to say was that not all landlords will be walking away from their land..and that not all renters will be homeless..
as for keeping it in the land sales forum..that really confuses me as I dont have any land for sale and am full up right now..so..guess you are somehow..confused?

in limbo
10-30-2008 22:38
While I wait for my sim owner to let me know how much tier will increase, I am in limbo. I would love a sim of my own but I just don't have that much money to throw into SL.. I love being here but I have no idea in which direction my avi will go. It really does feel like the rug is being pulled from underneath me. I can only be thankful that it's only virtual reality, not real life. Still, I've carved out a name for myself and for others and it's on the verge of all being wiped away I didn't see anything wrong with Dianne's post, by the way. Good to hear some sim owners will stick around, but I know in my case, my tier is going up, and I probably can't keep it...

Just in case anyone ...

I think there will be ppl transferring their OS to other ppl.. and making a sneaky buck on the side .. by asking for 100USD transfer EACH so before you agree to take 2 or more off the hands of someone else .. read this from https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417&task=knowledge&questionID=4235 From: someone If you are transferring multiple Openspaces to the same person, the fees may be different for that transfer. For up to 4 Openspaces in the same transfer, the fee will be $100 total. After the first 4 Openspaces, the transfer fee is $100 per region.
Examples:
* You're transferring 3 Openspaces to the same buyer. You'll be charged $100. * You're transferring 6 Openspaces to the same buyer. You'll be charged $300. * You're transferring 2 Openspaces to one buyer, 5 to another, and one last one to a third buyer. You'll be charged $100 on the first transfer, $200 on the second, and $100 on the third. * You transfer 2 Openspaces to a buyer this week, then decide to sell them 2 more next week. You'll be charged $100 for each transfer.

I have received many IM's in world with support from others in our situation. To all those, THANK YOU!
There are still threads with lots of "I am abandoning my OS Sims" yet I have only had one offer to pass them along to try to keep from loosing our dream, unfortunately it was too much for us to afford. We appreciated the offer, but our budget would not allow us to accept their offer. Thanks to the person that offered.
SURELY there has to be ONE person out there that is willing to pass 4 OS Sims to someone that just wants a place to live, instead of dumping them.
Please, anyone that has 4 of these, consider combining and selling to people who otherwise would not have a hope to keep the paradise they built and are losing because of this.

Nice Idea

You could easily take four of mine, but I'm not sure I can handle the stress of dealing with LL support to get things converted and changed. I'm at the end of my tether as it is, dealing with residents who are fleeing and trying to fill the vacant plots at higher prices.
I'm 90% close to pulling the plug on the whole damn lot. I'd love to help you, and I'm sure others have made kind offers, but at the end of the day the stress of trying to just break even is more than I can reasonably take.

Well, if you want to get rid of them.. Please consider it.
