Hey all. I don't normally use the forum, but ever since this policy, I have felt powerless and hopeless. I want to give as many people the chance of experiencing my small vision of SL. So I would feel allot better just posting an invitation to everyone here. Come relax and enjoy Chakryn while you still can. I will be happy just knowing that I could give as many people as possible, a piece of my dream. http://flickr.com/photos/28652156@N03/2684855393/I have not decided yet, but I may be leaving when Chakryn is forced off the grid. It will be a while, so I hope to meet some of you before it ends. Some may find this as a dumb advert *shrug* that is fine. I just know that if I don't make an attempt to share with as many people as I can, I will lose Chakryn. Feeling like I could of done more. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Chakryn/111/121/21

Sorry about the loss of your dream. There are many of us here in the same situation. Frankly, I'm kind of hoping that I will lose my love of SL, so I can tell them to kiss my seater. I suspect that could happen once I lose my home, if I do lose it. And that could well come to pass. The final decision has not been made yet.

Oh my! I have been to Chakryn and it's magical!!! I urge everyone to go..it will be a sad day if this is lost to us....
You are an artist to create such beauty - I've taken a lot of photos there - using the light you provide! It is a work of art...

I have visited Chakryn Forest many times and know what a special place it is. I will be very sad if it disappears from the Grid. I appreciate very much that you brought it to life and have tended it so lovingly. If it does indeed wink out, it will live in the hearts and minds of the many folks who visited it and explored it's wonders. It is the best kind of inspiration. My best wishes to you!

So Sad

What a beautiful place and it illustrates - heart-breakingly - what this loss of OS will do to SL.
Everyone is talking CPU's and rents. but it is also the loss of hundreds of selfless man-hours of work that people have put in to provide memorable experiences for others.
This beauty will be wiped out and only, ugly, empty malls will be left

Oh come on, let's get real: Remove the requirement to already own a full 15,000 prim full island before an open space can be bought! If that's retained then the price increase for 3,750 prims is ridiculous and I think you, LL, already know that: Make open spaces available to everyone and opposition to the price increase for 3,750 prims will evaporate.

Or worse yet, ugly, *full* malls. Lagging all the neighbors.
But, that's not a problem. Just people who 'abuse' Open Sims. No siree, main land is just fine for the general population. Nothing wrong with it at all. Whore houses, malls, clubs, etc.? Why, they aren't any problem to live next to. They surely don't lag others around them. They would never cost the server extra strain. And they are ever so relaxing to gaze upon.

We started to look at new places to live and realised it was like moving from the country to surburbia. No thanks! You should check out Avatar Hangout or Open Grid - the migration there is very encouraging!

SL is our dream land, or it will not be
12-09-2008 02:01
I went to Chakryn once, some minutes, for a roleplay. I did not explored it. Not that I did not wanted it, but there were so many magnificient places in SL...
So the Chakryn I saw will be lost, probably, as many others.
For some, Chakryn disappearing is just "business". But for the large majority of normal persons, it is a grief.
No, ejecting Chakryn is not business. It is foolish. Because the ones who love places like Chakryn will simply leave the grid. They will never pay for a land between a whorehouse and a mall. They will not do this, even for free. This foolish policy has engaged SL on the down slope. It will not disappear as fast as Google's Lively, but it will. Or worse, it will even not be worth a visit, when only mainland and whorehouses and malls will remain.
Serious business is to serve customers needs. Everywhere, even in virtual worlds. If some don't believe this, try to sell non-edible potatoes, or cars without engine.
Given the intend of people going in SL, the very idea of mainland was foolish. Everybody should have a sim, and pay to have more or less prims, more or less computer space, without having to deal with neighbours with different tastes. There is definitively no need of any kind to stack people together like in mainland. Just the senseless belief that virtual land should be "regulated" like the real land. Virtual worlds were precisely created to escape the restrains of real estate.
By the way, the french most popular web hoster OVH has servers at 30 euros a month (50 setup fee), 24/24 7/7 maintainance included, 99.5% guaranted on time with penalties if not achieved. This is 8 times less than SL, for a better service...
SL is our dream land, or it will not be.

I love this sim - been meaning to ask for permission to film it - May I? If anyone else has a sim of this caliber that is about to disappear - and would like a digital record - please let me know - IM in world. You can see samples of my work in HD at http://www.vimeo.com/nitwacket/videosSeems all I'm doing lately is trying to record things before they disappear. Pyewacket
