In the past 30 minutes, I have sold 2 parcels of land on my full sim totalling 3 acres. This is a first for me and I have been running a full sim for more than a year now. It is a first in that never have I sold two such large parcels so quickly.
The buyers are open sim refugees.
It is ironic since it was the open sim that detrimentally affected sales and rents on my full sim for months. However, now people are coming back to the full sim it seems.
I have mixed emotions on this new development, since I also own an open sim. I will still have to cancel my open sim with LL because now I will never be able to get anyone on that thing again with the new price increases even though the pricing increases are now spread out.
The first question these new buyers are asking: "Is this a full sim or an open sim?"
I am selling lots on my full sim for one linden dollar, plus tier. I refuse to take advantage of these refugees, but rather, my heart goes out to them. They tell me stories and how much they have lost. I am so damn sorry for them. Oh yes, I am glad they have come to my sim, and why shouldn't they, it is one of the best looking tropical sims in SL. lol

I agree with you up to a point, but generally speaking I have found that most residents on SL do not even know there is a difference between the Mainland and Estates, nonetheless the distinctions amongst the Estate sims.

From: Josselin Looming yes its the renters how were told they can do whatever they like on the sim how will bleed for it Well, I always told new renters coming to my open sim that they were living on an open sim. This, of course, meant nothing to them. But if anyone is still under the impression that the price increase for open sims was caused by "abusers", then they should start to do a little more investigation on the communications coming out of LL. You will find, with just a little bit of reading between the lines, that this increase in price was due to pure economic necessity on its part. This can be interpreted as "greed" of course. Any "abuse" problems that happend on open sims could have been corrected through technical means, as it is now being done. So if this "abuse" problem is being corrected, why then the price increase still? Ding, ding, ding, ding....

From: PennyTheConstant Dezno I had no idea there was a difference nor do I .. I went and bought a place which was more attractive to me. And when I asked about the rules and regualtions, all I was told was to be nice to my neighbours. An open space was never mentioned.

You shouldn't be able to buy estate land if there's no covenant and the buy window should tell you the parcel is not being sold by Linden Lab.

In my opinion your landlord should have told you what you have rented/bought (whatever you want to call it on an island; it's the same thing anyway).

When i bought it i was new so did not know enough about the place. I will never buy anything again, the rules are too easily changed at our expense.

From: Atom Burma Don't take this the wrong way, but it's about damn time. I wish they would have started asking months ago, this whole drama could have been avoided. This this THIS! I was trying to sell an estate commercial parcel (still have it if you want it. About the same prims as a full openspace! ) so I was hanging around on a lot of the silly land groups. All anybody seemed to be selling were 'full' or 'half/quarter sims', which all turned out to be openspaces. Fine, they're fractional 'regions' but they're not the same thing as a quarter of a full-strength region. I think there was a willing deception on the part of many of these land-flogger types in their marketing that definitely didn't help people in thinking they were renting land on something with limited capabilities. This is a problem that residents brought upon each other, either through a minor form of misinformation or not doing your homework before making a purchase.

I put up a Jira entry ages ago for them to change the estate buying window so it doesn't look the same as the mainland buying window so people should be able to easily identify the difference. I didn't take Openspaces into consideration at the time.
