Google enjoys diversifying and they have a proven track record of great marketing and business acumen. Anyone have contacts at Google to have them acquire SL from LL?
I have already made contact, but maybe if someone, or somebodies, else has contacts, we might be able to salvage SL for the every day user.

Well since we are breaking out our ''contacts". I was going to give Steve Forbes a call and have him buy SL as a favor, but since you have pull at Google i will forgo making any such phone calls.

I'm having dinner at Peter Luger with Warren (He's paying this time, he owes me one) to celebrate the whole Obama thing Sunday, but if you're already on the blower to Sergey and Larry I'll give it a miss.

Google's added video and voice chat to Gmail. Meld an upgraded Lively with video and voice chat Gmail, Google Talk, a Google Docs account, and a Google Sites account, and you sort of have a 3D workplace communications system LL seems to be wanting to turn SL into, don't you?

Maybe with the 700 billion the U.S. Government have to bail out the trouble financial systems due to the credit crunch and use a little of it to buy out LL.

Google? lmao.
It is much more likely Google has people on it's payroll inside LL to destroy Secondlife from within. Google has the money, is that evil, and has it's own pathetic excuse of an attempt at a 3d social network.
No Google wants SL out of the picture. So does everyone else with a lot of money. And LL is playing right into their hands.

From: Briana Dawson LOLWUT? Sure. Like recommending the open space debacle, etc. Must be some logical reason for nuking the customers. My conspiracy theory is as nutty and illogical as any others. At least it is a change of pace from the "LL is greedy evil rich people" one.

You all crack me up! LMAO!!
Now just think about it for a sec . . . if LL was so valuable would not someone have already considered it for acquisition?
Maybe it really isn't worth as much as LL makes believe?

At least it is a change of pace from the "LL is greedy evil rich people" one. It's sort of like a Landlord trying to get tenants to move out so he can renovate and bring in a higher class of renter. The current customer base aka "We" are no longer what LL wants as the face of their product. They've been doing little things to annoy us, but not enough to cause any real exodus. They tried to gentrify the neighborhood before when the pimped for the Corporates a while beack, but "we" scared them off. They are ready to try it again, but this time they are burning the tenants out of the building before they renovate it so there will be no chance of the buttoned downs having to mingle with "those people" again.

Now see here's a case where we need a moderator. We started out with an excellent idea, i.e., a real corporation buying out a wanna be big corporation. We had some people who have great contacts, like Forbes, and Trump, Luger, and Warren. All very good. But, then we backslid into LL politics. Now folks, we need to keep focused on the subject here. OK? So back on topic, please? Thank you.
I am practicing my moderating skills to become one, because of the 18 moderators for this forum, none of them seem to know how to handle the job, and should be terminated soon.

This is an interesting idea (Google buying LL).
I thought too that Google, with its power and technical skill, would be a serious competitor to SL. So when they issued Lively, I paid immediate attention. Alas Lively (at least the first) is just a joke compared to SL: charicatural non-customisable avatars, no building tools, narrow lands, restricted social interaction heavily relying on inadequate* Google tools... But this is perhaps just a training, before issuing a more serious system.
I don't know what will happen, LL healed, or bought by another company, or a competitor emerging.
But ONE THING IS SURE: success wil go to the only platforms or systems which will provide all the set of tools which are now available in SL: simple in world building, groups, messages, teleport, and which will be available to EVERYBODY, WHATEVER ACTIVITY, PHILOSOPHY, OR ECONOMY LEVEL. Especially, like it or not, virtual worlds main use will remain dream worlds, entertainment or social alternatives. More "serious" occupations will certainly get a larger part than now, but NEVER they will rule 3D worlds.
Seems that very few people understand yet what made the success of SL: a platform easily appropriable by everybody, for all kinds of purposes. And with a full set of adequate tools. Few more could be added (like 3D meshes import or export, customisable skies, W3C normalized transfer protocols, centralized avatar management...)
Now that the succession of SL is open, the future of 3D worlds heavily relies on the understanding of these simple facts.
(*note: I don't say that google tools are bad, but that they are not designed for this use, not adequate for it. SL's groups and IMs are much better. I however noted a recent trend of residents exchanging pics or videos, so what Google's tools would be a real plus to 3D worlds, without replacing the existing social tools)

Let's face it, no one's going to buy LL if half the customers run round yelling they're leaving every time there's a price rise.

After reading all the reactions here, and in the other topics. Carefully considering the future prospects of this virtual world and estimating the chances to survival of SL in the near future, I unfortunatly desided to let Linden Labs know that I am withdrawing my bid to buy the company for € 100.
Sorry guys
