I totally understand everyone who is up in arms, but there are some positive aspects to this policy change. Everyone here I'm sure would like to see SL continue to grow and these laggy over used openspace sims are alot of peoples first exposure to renting or buying land in SL. The way alot of people are getting fleeced has created a situation which almost guarantees that a new arrival will think of SL in general as 1. Laggy 2. fly by night and 3. not worth sticking around From the perspective of a first time land buyer the mainland buying system is hard enough to understand.. so for the motives behind this change it makes sense to me. I think that the price increase is valid and is a direct way of forcing the play on these opensims, which has frankly gotten totally out of control. I feel for all the buyers of these openspace sims from resellers etc.. you face some decisions ahead. To put it in perspective though, compare your loss to losses sustained from mainland value depreciation and I would think the mainlanders probably have you covered what they are saying is.. we are taking away this window to fleece new people and give them a bad experience. If you want to play you now have to pay enough more to deter the majority of users. If anyone else has something positive to say please say it here.. I am not an SL fanboi nor or am i trying to start any kinds of flame war.. -why

If the result is that we eventually get something like SVC-3337, TRUE open spaces, then it will be a positive. I don't fault LL for making a "sim-lite" product, there's a genuine market for it. But they've taken a product that didn't quite satisfy the need for open spaces and moved it even further away from doing so. At 1875 prims and US$75/month, they were already too beefy and too pricey to satisfy the need for open spaces, and then they made them both beefier and pricier. We *still* need *real* open spaces! My hope is that the end result of all this will be that we'll actually see a *real* openspaces product come along for those who use who've been using the current product for want of anything better. Something like what I suggest in SVC-3337 *plug plug*

From: whyroc Slade To put it in perspective though, compare your loss to losses sustained from mainland value depreciation and I would think the mainlanders probably have you covered That's based on the assumption that the people who are going to get fleeced on this, weren't already fleeced on the mainland deal, which would be a wrong one to make. Also only someone of shallow self-worth takes pleasure in the suffering of others as comfort for their own suffering.

I'm positive about this. If I do have one suggestion it would be to second a comment made in another thread that LL should offer a one time deal to combine OS's into full prim sims at no cost. Like for a week or something along those lines.
But, having said that, many of the whiners on these threads gave no thought to the community when they were buying up OS regions on the cheap and then slamming their tenants for high prices after they had their space setup. Obviously not everyone concerned about LL's actions are ripoff artists but a large part of the land problem in general is because of the actions of some land barons that now complain about being cheated.
It is as if LL is not entitled to turn a profit if that means their margins are cut into. In the four years I have been here I have seen several upheavals but always a positive outcome when it comes to land sellers and buyers. I am not crazy about the price increases but that is business. You either adapt or fail and unfortunately, a lot of failures are already looking for scapegoats.

Would it be impossible to make a sim that is sold "full" and which could be terraformed but to add a prim or a script one would first need to delete one? I can envision a sim with an island, heavily treed, with rocks and scripted boxes in place. Those could be deleted and replaced with the resident's things. It could be a fixed resource island. Of course attachments and scripted avatar accoutrements are another story, but it seems like the resource limit could be set low to accomodate some give and take. Fixed resource islands could be cheap waterway and forest sims with very little use for anything else. Since I don't have any knowledge of what's possible or not it gives me lots of leeway to propose fatuous solutions
