Needs little explaining; use this thread to show the real loss we are facing here in SL. That is the loss of some of the most beautiful and creative sims in the virtual world. Put the name of the island and a brief description. Tell us and LL what it really meant to it's owners and visitors and why it is a tragedy that it no longer exists.

Las Islas Sims , based on 4 openspaces and one main sim
I dunno yet what will do according to see how this problem will develope .... I dont see a reason why I should pay more for what I have done that tons of people are enjoying for free.... I guess I am one of the "abusers" but they didnt tell that there was any form of abuse when we bought the sims trusting the new prices and LL politics.... http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3111/2615172945_760f7bda8e.jpg?v=0 http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=lasarenasrodasas001fg3.jpg |

Parkville Isle - Parcel: Garden of Lost Love
A large beautiful garden area to grieve the loss of a loved one, whether it be to death, or love gone bad, with a volcano on the sim. (And my home) Total prims used: 3000: FPS 45, Time Dialation of .9-1.0. Now crammed into a tiny corner on a full sim. Not nearly the impact. _____________________

My home-
http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Bear%20Ridge1.png Approximately 3K prim and 153 scripts with total 3.6ms - occupied by 2 avatars about 30 or less per day 5 days a week and 2 hours on the weekends- we have had one party with about 40 people on the sim- our housewarming. My Distillery- http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Still1.png The build itself is about 1400 prims and 163 scripts running at .8ms; the surrounding landscaping, which is parkland and public cuddle areas bring it to approximately 3K prim. It is occupied for 2 hours a day 5 days a week with between 15-26 people and we have had several birthday parties and a Halloween party that brought in 50 people for 2 hours. The Herve Lucien Art Gallery- http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Herve1.png http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Herve2.png A SL gallery that was launched in collaboration with a show of Lucien's photography at a RL gallery in Hungary. Lucien is a famous architect and photographer and you can read about him here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucien_Herv%C3%A9 The gallery is approximately 3K prims and 116 scripts that run at 1.3 ms Total. The opening event of this gallery would not have been possible under the current policy as we had aproximately 40 avatars throughout the day. The gallery currently gets about 60 avatars a day visiting - though not at the same time. The Nicolas Schoffer Gallery- http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Shoffer1.png http://www.secondlifelandbyowner.com/images/Shoffer2.png This is a gallery that was opened in collaboration with a show of his work at a RL gallery in Hungary. Nicolas Schoffer is the Father of Cybernetic Art. His 82 year old widow attended the Gallery open in avatar and talked with visitors regarding his work. You can read about Nicloas Schofffer here- http://www.olats.org/schoffer/eindex.htm The gallery is approximately 3K prims and 81 scripts that run at .110 ms Total. The opening event of this gallery would not have been possible under the current policy as we had aproximately 40 avatars throughout the day. The gallery currently gets about 60 avatars a day visiting - though not at the same time. Additionally 4 open space sims of forest/park lands have been taken down. I dont have photos of these. |

Clockspire Cove.
In my role as a classical steampunk villain (monocle, mustache-twirling, that sort of thing) Clockspire was my evil mountaintop lair. On average, it saw 2-3 people visit in a day, with a peak, when my latest evil scheme was being foiled, of about 20, but at best that would happen once a month. The sim is there, but it will be sold off, and all the hard work I put into it, the shipwrecks, the giant stone skull, the giant clock.the steam-powered elevators, the lightning-catchers, my workshop. Gone. I used perhaps 1100 prims, at peak. AV usage was rare, my script times were in the .2 range, never had *any* performance problems a reboot didn't fix. I'm staying in SL, because I have a community I am part of here. But I am scaling my spending way down. And, unlike before, I will now never consider a sim purchase of my own. This is either a display of incredible stupidy and incompetence, or a desperate attempt to raise cash. Either way, it was presented with such a level of ignorance and arrogance, I am amazed. |

Yea, I was saddened to hear of the good....er....evil Doctor losing Clockspire Cove, and I never got the chance to return to New Babbage to see it when it was there.
I know Caledon has some OS regions, not sure what the end result will be there, other than Caledon will go on, regardless. Haven't heard anything final regarding Antiquity, last I heard, the owner was planning on cancelling all the sims due to the increase. And, it never happened, but there were plans for an OS in Steelhead City, on the other side of Lighthouse Island. Nothing but open water, but with this new plan, and limited number of avatars allowed......I'm not sure. |

The Gates

The Isle of Zen - a romantic public park island with a free wedding chapel and many cool things to do. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing.
Summer Island - a fun and beautiful public park island with free jet skis and windsurfing. Also a free SL stage for live performers to use and earn some lindens. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. Northwest Gate - a planned extension of the isle of zen public park sim. Another romantic park island. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. Eastgate - a no fee rental tropical island sim donated to a well known SL resident. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. Southeast Gate - a planned extension of the isle of zen, a romantic public park sim. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. Southwest Gate - a beautiful tropical sim with a small residence rented. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. Southgate - a beautiful tropical full sim with rental property. Westgate - my home - a beautiful tropical residential sim. A majority of the space for open water available to the public for sailing. All of the open sims were running over 3000 prims and had at most one or two residents at one time. Lag was non-existent and scripts were minimal. They were great places to visit and I had nothing but positive comments all the time. RIP |

Germania Atlantico
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Germania%20Atlantico/140/128/22/ Non commercial OS-Sim, landscaped for sailing in Second Life. This one and 4 other OS in south of Germania Estate will probably vanish until 1.1.09. 2750 Prims used, script time 0.8 - 0.9 Listed at www.b-places.com "Germania Atlantico is part of the cluster of Sims Germania. A water oriented area of Second Life grid for those who loves to sail around. Lovely designed Mediterain style island. On the island you will find besides the nice boats an amphitheater area, just nearby the bridge, also a windmill which is on the top of a little hill and it is a nice reference for when you are sailing. The Spacexcape Project

The Spacexcape Project
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Spacexcape/4/222/22 http://spacexcape.com Two open sims that fund the project closing on 21st November and will be followed by the closure of the project by end of the year. The financial loss suffered as a result having to abandon the two open spaces now prevents us from continuing. Although we were putting applications in to major British funders, these bids have now been withdrawn as a protest against the behaviour of Linden Labs over the last month. Just another innovative and creative project that Linden don't care about. Just another shoal of little fish swimming out to find a new, less polluted pond. _____________________

"The marvellous world of the Eolis" nice world of fairy-like winged creatures, http://www.planet-eolis.net
This project is dead before birth. I was waiting to have funds, I was waiting to have such features as small avatars, or custom sky with planetary ring and moving planets. It is clear that I shall never try such a thing in SL, even if it could be implemented one day. |

I will be loosing Tin Teddy Gardens this week - it has around 1500 prims on it, running 20 small scripts and has never had more than 4 people at a time on it. It is a garden area, divided by mountains into Oriental, American, European and Tropical areas with trees and plants on it. I was hoping to continue working on it to make a nice area with some romantic spots for exploring and sitting in.
Obviously 750 prims is not going to be enough, and I just can't justify paying the new prices for this when it doesn't generate any income to me (I do have the trees set for sale, but 90% of my tree sales are coming from my full sim next door, mainly in the form of boxed sets of plants). This island was always intended to be somewhere nice to explore and spend quiet time - for myself and for anyone else who wanted to do so. Before the second price hike in July I will also be getting rid of Satin Teddy, my other open space sim. This one is mostly water with an island on it. The island has an Egyptian temple and a pyramid with my Egyptian artifacts for sale. It has just under 2000 prims in use, running 40 scripts. Again, never more than 2 or 3 people at a time on it. I am disgusted that I was sold a product which clearly said I could use a set number of prims but that I shoudl use lightly. I have kept scrits right down, done nothing to attract large numbers of people etc and do not rent them out or anything, I have total control. And yet now they are upping the price by 66%. And have told me I can't have a refund on my purchase price for Tin Teddy Gardens, even though I have only had it a few months. I no longer trust the Lindens and will be scaling down my SL operations. They are no longer going to be getting anything like as much of my money. _____________________

Maple Falls. Yeah it might not mean much to anyone who never came over - I guess in many ways getting a place with no one crowding me on any side was like beating the final boss in a video game. Since there is now pretty much ZERO happening in so much of SL, it doesn't make things work.
So goodbye to crashing waves in the coves, to the sculptured hills and water inlets. No one but me and my guy will miss it (which is to say me, since it was mainly my playground). It might have been poignantly named with meaning only we knew but - onwards an upwards. I do feel for my landlady who has to pay for the tier still - however I have covered it in my advance rent - if LL had better policies no one would be any the worse off. Let's not forget that there are many disillusioned people who - even if they don't find another virtual world - simply no longer want to even log in any more to this hunk of crap. Still, there's one born every minute to replace those who simply don't care any more and will take their passion elsewhere. For those of you here trying to train wreck other people and places = examine these people and what they say and you'll find they are not concerned about Second Life at all in many cases - just trying to keep their own cash cow fat. SL you are welcome to such people ![]() _____________________
