I am just curious. I saw someone else state this in another thread and I wondered if others are experiencing this. Prior to the announcement to raise the price on OS sims we had no performance issues on either of our open spaces. In fact, they ran better than the parcels we had previously occupied on full sims even during a party with a large number of avatars.
Have you experienced a change in performance for the worse on your low prim sim since the announcement to raise prices?
Yes or No?

noticed the whole grid strugling as wel, I have a debug window open at all times and lately see a lot of packets out of order and something I never seen before, warnings about a dead object on the map, no idea what it is all about.

I'm not sure, still just seeing mostly the visual aspects, slow loading textures overall, the invisi avies 'till you walk up on them and the no teleports a few times.

I've noticed a drop in performance across the grid - the draw rate is slower than usual.

I visit a lot of sims, and often I can't tell if it's an openspace sim or not until I've been told. Some sims are just underutilized, and I've never been to an openspace sim that appeared to have any performance issues whatever. So from my perspective, the performance issue is bogus.
I've also been looking at a lot of the blogs and news services on this new move by Linden Lab, and this is making them look really REALLY bad. I think Jack Linden's "final word on the subject" needs a third look.

Performance is worse - not sure if it's centred around Black Tuesday or release of Mono which just is not providing the increase in performance we had promised for so long. Also I'm sure I've read somewhere that the OS' faired worse with mono - maybe a co incidence that just after mono they change the terms so much that effecitvely wipes out OS.

Texture Loading Problem Bogs The Grid
11-16-2008 20:56
I've noticed an entire level of deterioration since i was forced to upgrade at the login screen from 1.19 (which I used up through mid-September) to 1.20. When most people had switched to 1.20 I was still happily using 1.19, and it was faster, crashed less and loaded textures MUCH faster than now. That said, the whole grid has noticably been bogging and deteriorating since the introduction of this viewer. With all the screaming about the openspaces issue, WHY is the following issue not red headline #1 for ALL residents: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8503. The grid is DDOSsing itself. The issue has not closed. It has been there since August at least. Please point this BUG REPORT out to every resident that logged in to "talk with M and J" and maybe there'd be some action. THIS IS THE MAIN GRID PROBLEM TODAY. NOT OPENSPACES. NOT BAD SCRIPTING. A TEXTURE LOADING BUG IN THE MAIN VIEWER THAT IS DETERIORATING THE GRID.

I brought it up over in the "Not Illegal -- Stoopid" thread. I'd like to see this brought up more prominently, but not being a techie, I'm ill equipped to adequately describe the problem.

Yes definate performance change, TP, search and inventory are getting better as we get fewer sims online Now if we could just dump 30,000 odd bots who either stand around doing nothing or hammer the crap fout of the search & TP servers 24/7 we might get better still

The biggest performance hit is always going to be the way in which the database structure is configured. Limited scaleability of the core system, combined with the pipeline networking nodes within the system.
Basically, SL is out growing the core system, it has been 'strecthed' several times to try and cope, but will require a complete overhaul to make things better.
Did you know that the OpenSim platform can support 500 connections (Avatars) per region (sim)? Around 45,000 prims, along with the correct viewer (Client) can 'see' prims of 250x250x250 and bigger, 99% hollow, 100% transparency.
LL increased the connections to each region from 50 to 100 this year, well in theory anyway.
So what is the limiting factors imposed upon SL's capacity? Simply put, money. This relates to, why allow 250+ ppls to reside on a single region, when your revenue stream is about selling land? The more people that desire space/land, the bigger your revenue stream is.
Don't get me wrong, the thought of sharing a sim with 249+ other people would be akin to living in NYC without streets and open spaces. The cross chatter of openchat and voice would be a nightmare. However, there are instances where without wanting to use 4 sims to put on a show/conference etc, just to get around 200 ppls resonably able to function, would be desireable, along with the logistics and costs imposed by the current limitations.
Most shows HAVE to be spread out across several sims, just to accomadate the potential visitors. However, the Nett result is, that no singular event at the show, can ever draw 'big' crowds. Start hitting around 60+ ppls and the sim gets flakey, take out your own people running that show, and your true potential visitors are around 30+.
Unless every script is converted to MONO and it works out of the box, that will always be another limiting factor. LSL runs an seperate instance of the same script, eachtime it is used (think Mystitool), whereas with MONO, it runs one instance. The Nett effect to the CPU is quite dramatic, in its reduction. LL also ought to consider capping scripts in a more refined way. At present, even when you turn off scripts for everyone except your own group, still many people can run their own scripts on their own avatar, as long as they do not interact with items/avatars on that sim, again adding to the lag on the sim. Turning OFF your radar or Mystitools will not turn off those scripts! Removing those HUDs is the only way to prevent them from adding to the lag.
LL don't simply leave this tap unchecked, give controls to sim owners to reduce that type of localised lag by being able to either a) limit the amount of scripts per user, or b) turning off scripts to either everyone, or outside a selective group, mean exactly that.
Avatar Rendering Costs per user.... Green (which is good) has a rating up to 800, Orange 800-1000, Red= you are adding additional loading to the sim and everyone around you. I have seen avatars with a 25,000+ rating! I wouldn't want to go back to the days before primmed clothing, BUT.. 25,000+ single avatar cost to the sim and everyone around them, including adjoing sims!!!!! Capping that, would make designers create smarter... same with the senerio of a 1024x1024 texture on a door knob, do you really need that?

We have a totally empty open sim. All land right now and we can barely walk. If this was a boating sim it would be impossible to boat. I'd really like to know what is going on?

I to noticed a serious increase in chat lag, slower prim, attachment and clothing rezzing in our mainland home in Coverdale as well as other places I have visited following the announcement. Personally I find this very od, especially since we reduced our prim usage just prior to the announcement as we had planned to move to a Private Island and buy some OpenSpace. But for now we maintain it as a compound and foothold in SL till we see is the other grid we are also placing a foothold in can take off and we make our final move there.

For the past few months, textures have been loading at abysmal rates. And simply walking in some places is a chore and a half.

in the past 3 weeks, access to our main (FULL) sim have been sporadic.. very often on logging I either get home position not available or end up at 10.10.10 when i log on the our neighbouring OS sim.. the full sim is often just not there.. or there and inaccecable..
Concierge is always kind enough to bring it back online ..or move the region... but this never used to happen before.. now its several times a week.

We never ever had any lag issues at Spacexcape before but since 'Black Tuesday' the performance is terrible. Its been impossible to build and visitors numbers are dropping every day because no one can move around. I was going to keep the project going until January but thank goodness I cut my losses, sold up and am moving out by end of November! I have better things to spend money on! Expenditure for 2008 in SL : $9,636.00 USD Projected expenditure for 2009 in SL: $000000000000000000

Not to mention that graphics seem to have been throttled back too. curves are clipped more, simplification of objects, sculpties on my AV even happens at an alarmingly close distance. Even with settings turned down and a 96m draw distance things are shite. So with a blistering fast frame rate & good bandwidth according to LLs own stat bar, WTF are the tossers upto? And before the Linden loves jump on my back, no its not My PC its a high spec core2 with 1Gz GF9600 card and 4 gig of ram etc.... it used to run SL like a dream. Hanging onto my OS till I can no longer afford to or the way things are slipping here want to let all go. P'd off tart from Kent here
