Where's the fun in SL these days?

SL is not a game, it's a platform, but more importantly, for the vast majority of residents, it's entertainment, and entertainment must be fun.

With LL's erratic and clueless moves, it is getting less fun. They hike the prices of our entertainment, promise a discussion, and then shut down the blogs and close threads on the forum.

I'm fed up with fighting against LL to save LL. I've been doing it for 3 years, bad decision after bad decision. They've totally lost it. I've reached the point where SL is no longer fun. It's no longer good entertainment.

It's hard to invest yourself into a hobby when you know that your provider might just pull everything down on a whim. It's hard to have fun when you get the feeling that you're being conned.

Folks, their message is clearly: they're done talking with us, now take it or leave it. I'm leaving it.

As the days go by and little dialogue with the Lindens on this terrible policy/pricing fiasco, I find myself moving closer and closer to Terra Box's position. SL seems pretty cold right now...

Terra, I agree with you (and anyone reaching a similar conclusion) - this is supposed to be fun, something we do to get away from our RL. If it stops being fun, then we all have to ask ourselves why we continue doing it.

Not being a landowner and being part of a (still) successful business venture, I am still enjoying it, but I sometimes think that's in spite of what LL are doing, not because of it.

I agree, one just gets the feeling this is all LL's show and we all count for zero,i sense so many of us are tired of the fight, tired of the complaining, tired of the trying to appeal to LL compassionate side, tired of trying to show them how many are heartbroken about losing their beloved creations, tired of trying to make them truly understand how this increase is so unaffordable to so many who bought/rented OS at a price they could afford at the time and would not have done so at the increased price
I think many are just going to quietly go away, tired of the fight, too bad though cos i think that will satisfy LL
There is nothing more frustrating than when you feel you have been wronged and cannot fight back, for all we fight back to is silence and a wall, and an uncompromising LL

We have scaled down and are not going to put anymore than we have to into SL to continue promoting our RL Business from here, including spending money on things & buying L$'s. The only reason i am staying premium in Dec is i still get 500L$ a week stipend and i need to own land for the business, so LL pays me in theory for me to stay a member lol. My wife is premium and she is not renewing next June but going back a basic account as shes on the 300L$ plan and doesn't own land anymore.

LL has disappointed me and her big time now and the fun has gone from what it used to be, the coming months here will be interesting to say the least. LL forgets pissed off customers are the worse they can have, the snowball effect isn't underway yet imo it's yet to start rolling.

mmm

As someone severely effected by the price change, I can honestly say, I am still having fun in SL.

I can only worry so much about what our tenants want to do. I can only worry so much about ~where/what/how~ LL places me in their evil plans.

I admit the last few weeks have not been fun, but we can't stress over the bad stuff and ignore the good. Our RL mortgage stresses me out too, but I force myself not to dwell on it. That doesn't mean I hate our house.

I guess my loosely conceptualized point is to *have fun* and remember what draws you to SL.

Someone here has a signature about loyalty to SL and not LL. This rings true for me, as I love SL and the communities within, but do feel like I am in an abusive relationship with LL.

Where's the fun....

I too have been here a very long time (2004) and still using my original accounts. I too am finding that sl is not as fun as it used to be. I don't find myself racing home to log in hang with my friends, design or build. I am basically staying atm for my tennants. I own 1 island and 2 open sims and have a small business. My tennants are long term renters (1 of which has been with me since I aquired my sim in 2006). With all the jacking around with prices and rules and changes in premium vs. free accounts I am truely not finding any fun in SL. Alot of these problems I believe have been brought on by LL themselves with allowing Open Spaces to be purchased on a mega level. I have kept my land purchasing to a minimum cause I felt I wanted a good experience with the game and wanted to pass that to my tennants. I am very active with all of them, open with them and try to keep them happy within the game as well. I have never raised their rent. I try and hold fun events. I allow them to hold events at their home aslong as its clear not to bother other residents and their area. So I've gone from spending 8-10 hours a day to maybe 1-2. I am really dishearted at the way this platform is going. Seems they keep hiring major titled people and raising prices and allowing Sl to run amuck. I think LL needs to really step back and look what is going on and see how they can make the SL experience fun again, esp for us "old timers". Otherwise my experience with SL will become less and less. :(

We all lived in a yellow submarine

It's gone from being like the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine" to Pink Floyd's "Animals".

Remember back when Torley made checking the Blog fun? Sure miss those days.

You know that I care what happens to you,
And I know that you care for me.
So I don't feel alone,
Or the weight of the stone,
Now that I've found somewhere safe
To bury my bone.
And any fool knows a dog needs a home,
A shelter from pigs on the wing...

...And when you loose control,
you'll reap the harvest you have sown.
And as the fear grows,
the bad blood slows and turns to stone.

They have done that. And they have decided You are not what they want in SL anymore. SL is growing up, and they would rther you left. They'll make up for your money in other ways.

Well you should read Katt Linden's post in another thread where she tells everyone to quit complaining and reminds us that we can use SL for FREE!!!!!!! She represents LINDEN LABS!!!!!!

I spent over $10,000 in SL in the last year. Guess what??? I won't be spending one single cent in the coming year!!!!!

Waves to Katt.

Still having fun in SL because my friends are there. But all confidence in LL as management has gone into the Negative Zone. Own one island, with friends, and the moment prices on it jump in the region of 67 percent for it, we've agreed that well sell the island and live out of our inventories. The OS development has already lead to my personal freeze on any spending in SL beyond the current island tier. Any and all monies that I'd earmarked for Second Life for new property, actual cash investment, will now go into other 3D worlds.

Went to Legend Cities Online this morning. Felt fresh and new and full of promise. Can't wait to start building there at the ground floor.
