I asked you some questions about grandfathering as I did before in the forum. You answered some of my questions, but not the crucial ones. Some of your answers were doubtful and maybe even discriminating.
Extract from InWorld meeting with Jack Linden, 13 Nov 2009 at Region Linden Estate Service. I edited the names to ensure anonymity for some. The complete log of the meeting is in my possession.
[11:21] DJ Flamand: Jack, I asked in the forum with reactions on your first message about grandfathering that is still going on, but never got an answer to that question.
How come that some residents have grandfathered tier for more than two years now on both regular and open space sims. And how come that everybody that started with real estate after 2006 got to deal with several sat backs like the initial purchase prices and now this price change?
You compensated the price change on initial purchase with an open space sim, and now that compensation seems to me as a "Jack in the box".
Why are the current existing open space and regular sim owners different than the ones that got grandfathered for more than two years?
Will that grandfathering finally disappear so that we will have a fair open market?
[11:24] Jack Linden: DJ, yes the grandfathering is pretty much 2 years now for some old islands. But those are mostly on class 4s, whereas newer islands are class 5
[11:24] DJ Flamand: so there are no class 5 grandfathered sims around?
[11:25] Bart [...]: Not true I have a couple class 5 sims at 195
[11:25] Jack Linden: DJ, the grandfathering was as much about recognising the early adopters as anything else.
[11:17] Bart [...]: If someone has 4 OS at the 50usd grandfathered price, and those 4 OS are converted to full sims will they stay at the grandfathered price of 195usd per month?
[11:20] Jack Linden: Bart, yes i believe we retain the grandfathered pricing after conversion
[11:20] Bart [...]: you believe or you know
[11:23] Jack Linden: Bart.. sorry.. missed your other sentence. It was a Yes
[11:23] Jack Linden: The grandfathering remains
[11:23] Bart [...]: thanks jack
[11:27] Talarus [...]: Grandfathering is typically permanent
[11:27] Ciaran [...]: So why does grandfathered status remain on transfer then if it's about recognising the early adopters?
Note: Ciaran didn't get an answer, although it was a very plausible response to your answer.
So Jack, newcomers are to be treated different than the so called early adapters. They are not entitled to grandfathering as LL did before. Your answer about recognizing the early adopters for over two years now seems to me a statement from LL that all newcomers after Nov 2006 didn't contribute to secondlifes growth. And your answer during the meeting indicates clearly that the 2006 grandfathering will remain even after this price change becomes affective.
Will you please be so kind to clarify the following questions:
1. What is the reason that in this case grandfathering will not be granted, although Linden Labs did that before in 2006?
2. Is Linden Labs willing to recognize that newcomers after 2006 are contributing as much to the growth of secondlife now as early adapters did before and probably still do?
3. Why is LL remaining the 2006 grandfathering, even if class 4 sims are converted to class 5. Your statement that the 2006 grandfathering only affects old class 4 sims is clearly not true.
4. Why is Linden Labs remaining the 2006 grandfathering even after transferring a grandfathered sim to a non early adapter? Your statement about recognizing early adapters clearly doesn't hold.
5. Is LL willing to grant grandfathering in this case, or when will the 2006 grandfathering stop so that we will have an equal, fair open market in secondlife?
And last but not least:
6. why am I as a customer treated different than your so called early adapters? Early adapters are just customers too.
I really would appreciate an answer to that question. Especially because in most western countries they recognize that all humans are to be treated equally. They don't in the USA or California?
All customers in secondlife are still human I believe.
