Hello
Could someone please answer the following Qs for me, much apppreciate it if you could.
What does the new OS rules mean for people like my friend who have bought land from an individual not from LL, will they lose their land? Is this 3rd party exchange Grandfathering? If not what is grandfathering?
Q2 - What is the difference between openspace sim and Private Island, is private island a full sim?

Grandfathering in Second Life applies to older sims that had a tier price of $195 a month and when price changes were annoucned those sims were "Grandfathered" in at the old rate meaning the price rise didn't apply to them.
So when people are saying openspaces should be grandfathered they are saying that existing owners stay on the current tier price but new owners will pay the higher tier price.
It is a controversial practice and has generated some criticism, there's also no guarantee that Linden Lab will keep the grandfathered rates forever.

Thanks for that Ciaran. So what does this mean?
Does it mean we can't purchase land from anyone other than LL?
We will no longer allow the Owner of an Openspace to be changed to a different resident than the Payor. Initially we will not enforce this change on Openspaces where the Payor and Owner are already different but in those cases the only change allowed will be to set the Owner back to the Payor. This doesn't affect the parcel level rentals, this is just focussed on the whole region rental of Openspaces.

From: Jedi Quintessa Hello
Q2 - What is the difference between openspace sim and Private Island, is private island a full sim? I think a private island is a full sim, if looking in the land tab is anything to go buy

It isn't possible to transfer open space sims between land lords. That was possible in the past. Even when you buy a open space sim from a land lord, the land lord is still the 'real' owner of the sim. He pays the tier of that sim to linden labs. You are only the owner of the 65 536 sqm land that the open space sim has when you buy an open space sim. And you pay the tier + some profit to the 'real' sim owner (land lord).

From: Jedi Quintessa Q2 - What is the difference between openspace sim and Private Island, is private island a full sim?
Private islands are sims not owned directly by linden labs. Most of them are owned by a land lord who sells/rents the land. The sims directly owned by linden labs are called mainland. Bot open space (or low prim) and full prim sims have a size of 65 536sqm. An open space or low prim sim has only 3750 prims; a full prim sim has 15 000prims That's why the purchase price and the monthly tier for full prim sims are 4x higher then low prim sims.
