Since you are not allowed to own an OpenSpace Sim without also owning at least one full-prim sim, there is no way for the tenants of an OpenSpace that they are renting from someone else to offer to buy out the owner. Your only hope is to talk to your landlord and assure them that you're just fine with the idea of absorbing a 66% increase in your monthly maintenance fees. And even then, a lot of them will still abandon those sims, because the risk if any tenants get fed up with the high price and leave is just to great.

Why I ask..does one have to own a full sim before you can buy an open sim? I rent an open sim and have been happy there for the past few months...all was good...until now..I wont be able to afford staying..very sad..

Do you think landlords will be abandoning their sims before the price increase? It may not happen with all this outrage going on

Also, if you have a sim and have paid for 12months like some people do, can they still increase the tier or not until that period is over?

It depends on your landlord, LL don't involve themselves in private rental issues.

In the future you'll have the option to do one of the following if you want around 3700 prims and do not own your own land:

1/ Rent 1/4 full region - for around 7,500L$ / week
2/ Rent an openspace region for around 11,000L$ / week

having an entire island with the same number of prims is obviously an advantage (providing you can use them all) and so if we take the emotion out of it and imagine this was being done from the start, then it seems quite reasonable.
Although, I do have sympathy for people who already own Openspace regions and are using them as they are intended.

I have never rented out openspace sims, as they are often mis-understood - you often see peoiple advertising "Full Island! >3700 prims! Only 7,500L$ / week!" - it's misleading, tenants are not being told the whole story and now this will stop.
