here is Mr. Lyndens business advisors, advice.

Mr. Lynden, openspaces are very popular, they are selling at record breaking rates. They selling so hard that the servers are having troubles keeping up with them. So we got a idea. What we will do is take a hot selling product, we will change the name, reduce the features, and raise the price, this way, we won't sell as many, and we will make lots of money.

And people say President Bush's Foreign policies was idiotic in game plan.

the limitation of avatars and use of scripts is a logical solution, for it will allow the same amount of land to be used, with less of a strain on the server.

But the raising in price, is aimed to reduce the strain only one way. to reduce the amount of sales being made.

i may not be the greatest talker in the world. and my spelling can be just as questionable. but i have studing marketing for 3 years, and i build pc's in my spare time. raising the cost of a product is not going to make the strain on a server any less. all it will do is reduce the amount of sales being made, which won't reduce the strain on a server. all it will do is reduce the amount of servers being strained.

Why would one take a hot selling product, reduce the features, raise the price, and expect to see a rise in profit from such product?

I understand the problem at hand. and i understand that openspaces was being used for something they wasn't intended for. but reguardless they was hot sellers and very popular in the second life community. Turning what is now know as openspaces into homesteads is a pretty good idea. but if you are to increase the cost of a already provided product, you really need to increase the features of said product. the limitation of avatars and scripts as said, is logical and fair, seeing how there wasn't really any regulation on those before. the prims stay the same. so in fact the only gain by these upcoming homesteads is the price.

offering people the ability to convert 4 openspaces into one full sim, and ya really think that going to happen alot. if people don't want to spend the increase of the openspaces that are to become a homestead, what makes you think they are willing to pay the increase to convert to full sim?

illogical is your solution.

if you are all h*ll bent to increase the price of a openspace,and now call them homesteads, here is a better game plan.

openspaces will now be known as homesteads.
homesteads will cost more then a openspace does.

homestead will have limitation placed on avatars and script use on homestead land.
however, prim use will be increased.

see that Mr. Lynden, I took, but I gave too. Now that is a compromise.

4 openspaces to CPU. Well how about making it 3 homestead's per CPU.
(oh and btw, did you know that a CPU is not a server. Just because your server has a Quad core in it, doesn't mean that one server can match ther performance of 4 single core servers.)

The cost of a Homestead is stated to be more then half the cost of a full sim, but a homestead only has 1/4 of the features and resources of a full sim.

this makes for a bad purchase.

So come on Mr. Lynden, show these fine folks who love Second Life that you are not just about money, and that you care about the people who play your game.

You want to raise the price of a openspace and call it a homestead, well fine, but if ya gonna raise the price, i think it is only fair and good business, to give something more back in return.

I don't know any business, well successful one anyhows, that would take a hot selling product, reduce the features, and raise the price, and then expect people to still purchase the product. most places i know that was buying such product and the seller said from now on we are gonna sell you half of what we sell you now, but for over 50% more cost, the buyer would simply stop buying the product.

about the servers im sure they are virtual anyway so my guss is 1 virtual server per core is what they have

今回のOpenSpaceサービス内容の変更及び価格改定案発表されましたが、

改定のタイミング、貴社の言い分、改定方法など全てにおいて納得できません。
この場を借りて意見を述べさせていただきます。

（１）まずはサービス内容と価格の改定内容について納得できない点についてです。

今年4月以前、OpenSpaceのサービス内容が

プリム数：3,750
初期費用：375$
維持費（月額）：125$

になる前でも、OpenSpaceで使えるプリム数は1,875あったはずです。

それが今回いろいろ問題が起きたといって、
750プリムまで、使用可能なプリム数が減らされてしまったのは何故でしょうか？

貴社は今回のVoid Simのサービス内容が、
環境SIM本来の使用をしたいというユーザーのためのサービス内容としていますが、

65,536㎡もの広大な面積の土地に、たった750プリムでしか表現できない景観に
いったいどのくらいの人が魅力を感じ、1ヶ月間に75US＄ものお金を払おうと考えるでしょうか？

少なくとも4月の値下げ前の環境シム利用者でさえ、
多くの人が1,850プリム使いたいと考えていると思います。


（２）２点目は今回のサービス内容と価格の大幅な改定は、
前回の改定から時間があまりにも短すぎるという点です。

Homesteadsにサービスを移行するなら月額維持費が約１．７倍、
Voie Simにして維持費を現状のままにするとしても、プリム単価約５倍。

たったの半年や1年間という短期間に、このような大幅な値上げをされてしまうようでは、

この先、アイランドでも、メインランドの土地でも同じように、
いつどんなに大幅な維持費値上げをされてしまうか不安が残ります。

実際、この先、今回のOpenSimの値上げような、アイランドやメインランドの土地の値上げが
あるのではないかという不安の声を多くの人から聞いています。

貴社は、たかがOpenSpaceの開発と考えるかもしれませんが、
65,536㎡もの広さに、3,000プリム以上ものオブジェクトを使って、海や森林の景観を創るのには、
非常に多くの時間、労力、お金の投資が必要です。

それは、OpenSpaceを最大限活かして、美しい景観を創ろうとすればするほど必要です。

多くのOpenSpace開発者は、OpenSpaceを最大限活かして美しい景観を創り、

アイランドに訪れる人達の目を喜ばせたいと考え、非常に多くの時間、労力、お金の投資をしたはずです。

に多くの美しいOpenSpaceの景観を撮影した画像が寄せられていることからも、おわかりいただけると思います。

おそらく多くのOpenSpaceは4月にサービス内容が改定になって、そこからそのサービス内容と価格に合わせて
資金繰りから開発設計まで綿密に計画を練っているはずです。

そして、その計画を元に、多くの余暇の時間の使って、景観を造作していったはずです。
多くの人が、開発から造作まで、かなりの日数をかけているはずです。

やっと思い描いた美しい景観が出来て、これからその景観を皆に楽しんでもらおうと思った
矢先であろうという、わずか半年後というタイミングで今回の大幅なサービス内容と価格の変更です。

完成して間もないというスポットも少なくないのではないでしょうか？

ちなみに私の例でいうと、構想から資金繰りに1ヶ月かかり、基本的な開発設計から造作までさらに約1ヶ月かかり、
細部にいたっては、いまだ完成したとはいえない状況です。

今回の値上げは約１．７倍とかなり大幅なものになりますから、
維持費を払い続けることが難しいというOpenSpaceも多くあると思います。

また、従来のままの維持費のサービス内容では、作った景観の多くは撤去を余儀なくされ、
無駄になってしまうというOpenSpaceも多くあると思います。

これは、大きな損失です。

今回のように、たった半年や一年の間に、シムの維持継続まで難しくなるような大幅な値上げを
いとも簡単に行われてしまうようでは、今後、安心してセカンドライフ内での各種開発等の
計画を立てることが出来ません。


（３）また、思いのほか負荷が高く、Openspaceを現状の価格設定で維持していくのは難しい、
どうしても値上げしなくてはセカンドライフのサービス自体の存続が厳しいということであれば、

リンデンラボ社は今回のように一方的にOpenSpace値上げ案を通告するのではなく、

その前に、広く一般にOpenspaceで発生している問題をきちんと開示した上で、一旦Openspaceの供給を停止し、

価格改定も含めて、ユーザと対話し、今後どうしていくのがお互いのために一番良いか、
共存していくための方策を一緒に考え決めていくという手順が必要だったのではないでしょうか？

今回の価格改定案の発表をうけて、今一度、Openspaceの推奨される使用方法などに関する
公式に出されている情報を調べなおしてみました。

今回の改定案が発表される前、Openspaceの推奨される使用方法については、
公式ナレッジ・ベースの「Openspaceに関する情報」の「推奨される使用方法」の記載が下記のとおり
2008/06/22の日付で詳しく追記されています。

これに一致しない使い方がルールに反するとか、他人に迷惑をかけるという意味は含んでいません。


日本のリンデンラボ社の公式な質疑応答の機会であるオフィシャルアワーで、

他人に迷惑をかけることがない「Openspaceの重さについての基準」を明確して欲しいという質問に対して、

以下のような貴社スタッフからの回答が公式な記録として残っています。


Q: 環境SIMの重さを量る基準はありませんか？

Chiyo Linden: Control+Shift+1 でしょうか、そのなかでTime dilation, FPS, Time (MS) を御覧頂くようになるかと思います

この基準でいくと、多くの環境シムは全て余裕で基準内であり、まったく問題なかったと思います。

住宅やイベント等の用途には向いてはいないが、禁止はしていない、
環境シムの重さの基準は、Time dilation は0.95から１、FPSはおよそ４５、タイムは20以下

このような推奨される使用方法の説明しかない中で、上記のような基準を示されたとなれば、
その範囲であれば、推奨されていない用途でも軽い利用なら特に問題ないと
住民が判断してもおかしくないと、私は思います。

上記のような基準を超えて、環境シムを酷使していたシムは、
環境シムでショッピングモールを展開し、キャンプを設置してトラフィック稼ぎのための人を集め、
大規模なイベントを頻繁に開催したり、プリム数制限の枠を大きく超えたオブジェクトを設置するために
瞬時プリムなどSIMに高負荷がかかるスクリプトを多用していた一部のシムであり、

そういうシムについては、おそらく、同じサーバーに同居することになってしまった別の環境シムの
不動産オーナーから、リンデンラボ社に報告されていたはずですから、貴社はそれらを把握していたはずです。

上記のような公式な記録を重ね合わせて読んでいくと
多くの環境シムは、４月の環境シムのサービス内容改定後に発表されたOpenspaceを
貴社が想定していた基準内で使用していたことになります。

「多くの環境シムが、想定する基準以上の使用をしてしまった」という貴社の言い分は、詭弁です。

ですから、想定外の負荷がかかってしまい、現状の価格設定では維持できなくなってしまったのは、
全て、貴社の「想定ミス」によるものでしかありません。

リンデンラボ社は自社の「想定ミス」を素直に認め、住民に謝罪した上で、
「新たな共栄共存の道をともに考え、協力してください」とお願いするべきだと思います。


いま、貴社から提示されているのは、まだ、あくまでも「案」ということですから、
今後、フォーラム等に寄せられたユーザの声によく耳を傾けていただき、
企業の利益を守りつつもユーザ本位のサービス案を考えていってほしいものだと切に願います。
