I will be closing four Open Space sims because of the raise in the fee. Its just too much money at that rate. What a bone-headed move. I'll be filling out the tickets to cancel them shortly.

great profit

Oh yes, they indeed are going to profit from the abandonment of the sims. They made their set up fees and now, in many cases only a few weeks later, that space is being returned to them. What next? price hike on the private islands? yes of course, its just around the corner. Linden have us by the short and curlies (as we say in England!). No one in Linden gives a damn about the residents, it is all about making money. Vote with your feet folks! Say no more.

Well, I guess M didn't like my "carnival" on my Open Space. I had some rides I bought setup on one of my Open Spaces. I know for a fact nobody ever went there and they were not causing any big server load, I saw the stats daily. I was within my prim limit and not abusing anything. Two of my other Open Space sims were vacant of any prims to speak of, just boating areas.

I turned in three of my four so far. Screw-em, that's $225 back in my pocket a month now and not in their pockets. Free server? Whatever, its a depreciating asset to say the least, and that $225 a month i can use for other things. Oh, that's $225 a month at the current rate, I wasn't about to stick it out and pay the fee increase amount. At the current rate that $2700.00 a year for my Open Space sims. They wanted to jack that up to as high as $375 a month by next summer and at the same time greatly limit what I can do with the land? Screw-em. Dumb business move on their part. I don't NEED to own the Open Space lands, they were pure luxury, and fun. So one stupid knee-jerk announcement from Jack and M, and I send $2700 a year to my wallet and out of their wallets. I win, they don't.

WTF do you expect peoplel to do? Break into LL and steal the server for themselves?

If you are not paying the increase - then what do you do? So far all i see are adverts on the forums for people ASKING you to give them your abandoned OS, and they can go jump as far as i am concerned.

Back to LL it goes.

Suggest to those that want to turn in their openspace sims because someone at LL has arbitrarily determined that you are using it for more than they intended....give it to another resident that will keep it for open water...with nothing on it...the advantage to this is simple...LL still has to keep it running on a server...yet cant increase the price any....this hurts them more than you just abandoning it, which frees up a server for LL...a server you already paid the setup and acquistion price for...

Personally, I think that there should be a refund of the acqusition price/setup costs for the openspace sims....afterall, this is bait and switch....which is patently illegal in california...and most other places.

Awesome idea. Now all we've got to do is find 500 people willing to drop 75 bucks a month for a sim that they can't do jack sh*t with. ;)

All kidding aside.. I like the way you think, but I can't see it working. Mostly for the above reason.

There are also people who might want it as a Homestead sim. They might also want to use it to trade up to a full sim. Before you give it back to LL, see if someone will give you the $100 transfer fee for it. This will deprive LL of $150.

I couldn't get anyone to even rent them from me for my exact cost, not one email, private message, IM, etc. inquiring about renting a full OS at cost. I'm not about to sit around and pay for another month on the hope that somebody might pay me $100 so I can spend $75 while I wait. I gave three back, the 4th is likely coming back soon. Jack and M can get stuffed if they want to pull this kind of stuff on their customers. I used the prim I was sold, on the land I was sold, and the server didn't care or know the difference between a prim on a ferris wheel or a prim in a tree.

Having them jump in and play this obnoxious blame game against their customers for using what they sold them, is wrong. I voted with my wallet. Let M explain the downward trend in revenue to the board he answers to, it won't hurt me in the least. I'm really disgusted and annoyed with this whole proposal and audacity of it all, even in their announced "homestead" plan and pricing. They can keep it. No business I know of can raise their rates that much in a year (other than criminal oil companies) and get away with it like that. I hope Jack and M have to answer to their board for this, and I hope our voices are heard by the board members who question them about the sudden drop in revenues. That's what guides the ship, folks, revenues. From top, to bottom. I'm one resident who turned in three OS sims, there must be plenty more like me who've done this by now or are planning to do so as to not get hit with these crazy fees.

I wonder if M and Jack have noticed that outside of the Metaverse, the economy is tanking, people are losing jobs, their homes, their healthcare and the lot, which isn't exactly the smart time to go asking your customers to sit for a massive increase in rates.

Totally agreed. I turned in 7 Open Sims and one full sim. About $2575 US dollars setup fees and $875 US dollars a month in tier. The only way to make a statement is to vote with your wallet. I never made a dime on my sims ever. Most were park lands, romantic spots and a three were private residence islands which were mostly rent free or very low tier. I even had two OS sims that i purchased only two weeks before this crazy price increase. The theories that us walking away is somehow helping LL are just silly. LL can have the hardware and the setup fees - I wish them luck. I have learned a hard lesson and won't be fooled again. If SL falls, and it is possible, it won't be the customers fault as we have certainly all tried our best.

That's over $12k between the two of us, and we're just two people. I suspect this decision is going to cost them a bundle. I'm really annoyed at the whole "abusing it" nonsense. The server does know the difference in a prim tree and a prim bumper car. Maybe M visited my "carnival" and decided I had my nerve for using 3500 of the 3750 prims I was allowed. Maybe Jack showed up and got motion sickness on the Tilt-a-Whirl. I dunno, but I'm going to enjoy the extra $3k a year in my pocket. Oh that Linden Labs were a public company so we could see the real outcome of this decision in a public report.
