Man oh man it is maddening to see people reusing the same arguments without hearing anything outside their own heads. It's even more maddening to read the abusive replies, however veiled they may be.
The long and short of it is that I am more or less with the Lindens on this one.
I guess my problem is that I never purchased an OpenSpace, and none of the owners of an OpenSpace can convince me that they are right.
Maybe I'm just not listening, but then again, maybe I read everything LL has to say about this, and I agree with them. Maybe their argument is more compelling to me.
Maybe Dianne Davies will step in and reply with another abusive, flaming reply. Maybe some other forum member will do the same. Maybe I and the content of my posts will be judged as ignorant of "all the facts" or just plain stupid.
To LL, I can't make any suggestions that haven't already been made. There's got to be some way for LL to monitor usage and charge appropriately. I do not think that it is the right thing to do to "screw over" the customers who are using the OpenSpaces *as* *they* *were* *intended.* One 'punishment' (as it were) is not really appropriate for all offenses.
To all the rest of you, your arguments and gripes are all hollow without constructive feedback to supplement them. All this bitching and moaning isn't going to get you anywhere. Get mad at me, or the Lindens, or everybody else, it doesn't matter. Bitching never gets anybody anywhere... ever.
To all of you who threaten to leave, I say to all of you: Buh-bye! And I say it with a cheerful little waving wiggle of my fingers. The great thing about life (first and second lives both) is that, when one person falls, there is ALWAYS another to take his or her place. It's true in every aspect of life. Somebody else will come along to fill "the void" that you left.
Linden, there is a compromise to be found. Roundly jacking up the price is detrimental for both the short- and long-term. There must have been a need for OS's when they were conceived, and maybe their will still be a need for them, but not with that kind of price. In this age, with tech being what it is, there has got to be a way to determine actual usage and then charge appropriately.
To those people who say that LL never defined limited-use, you got a great deal for a while. Now, the times they are a-changing. More use equals higher cost - starting in 2009, anyway. You should be thankful that LL isn't retroactively charging you for your "abuses." Boy-howdy, then you'd be REALLY mad!
I sigh now at the futility of my post. While I'd love to read some replies that don't involve me being belittled in some way, I doubt I'll see them. And since I really don't want to stick around to watch the fire from all the flamers, I suppose I'll never know if anybody else agrees with me.
