Well, I got to thinking that $125 dollars a month could buy some pretty nifty things, or could be used for renting server space. Here's a few ideas... And you could do one each month, or every couple months for some. And heck if you dropped more than a few full sims, you could be buying a house and renting it out for real!
* Alternate to above: Pay a dominatrix to beat you and make you feel bad, it's the same kind of relationship, just with LL it's less loving.
* Rent 1/8th of the processor power and bandwidth on a server along with some database services by owning 1/2 of a mainland sim.
* Rent a dedicated multi-core server with large bandwidth for your own web or OpenSim projects, or both, and have change left for a pizza, beer or smokes!
* 12.5 'Premium Accounts"
* Buy 38 - 8 foot long 2x4s... REAL lumber and ACTUALLY build something.
* Refinish 40 square feet of wood flooring in your home
* Send 3-5 flower arrangements a month to people you really like.
* 25 Fark Subscriptions
* Unlimited Voice and Data calling plans from all major carriers, with 25 bucks left over for anything else you'd like to enjoy.
* Pay your cable + internet for a month
* Pay for your DSL and Dish Type Network
* Pay your power bill for a month with some left over.
* Buy a push lawnmower and burn off your new SLove handles.
* Groceries!
* Upgrade to a new cell phone
* BUY a copy of Photoshop.
* Buy 50-75 Gallons of Gasoline(!!)\
* 30-40 Gallons of heating oil
* 10-12 12-packs of beer, throw a party (don't forget to buy a pushmower the next month)
* Have your snow blower overhauled for the winter
* Oil Change, Tire Rotation and Inspection + Some fuzzy dice, hawaiian dash dance, etc.
* Cover the rate increase on your mortgage.
* Cover your parents rate increase on their mortgage. So your mom and dad don't have to eat cat food.
* Invest it in something with positive return, or long term value, rather than throwing it away month after month just so you can be abused repeatedly.

With today's world economy, raising the price on a 'fluff' sim is a really bad idea.
Way to go!

Heheh, as a lady I know I can buy a VERY GOOD handbag or pair of shoes for that money. Finances are getting tight for many people...scrape together an extra $50 for what is really a luxury? I don't think so!

Don't forget!

Pay you're car insurence! or Pay off the mob! or Gamble and maybe strike big! or Go to the movies every week for a month! or Take you're loved one to some place nice and not in virtual land! or Donate to me! =D
There are many things the money can be used for. The only(maybe) people that will stay and pay the overprices are the rich! I however is not rich. I don't think everyone will leave SL, but will stop paying. If I owned a opensim, I would sell it or abandon it right now.

Maybe it's time the Linden's feel the recession
10-28-2008 17:37
I'm sorry, but Linden Labs seems to think we're all somehow "above" the economic climate. I can hear someone in the meeting saying "Don't worry about it. These are the "rich" folks that play here".
I have 3 OS's and I'm seriously thinking of letting them go. I don't see how I can justify the increase when I was pushing it as it was. Maybe the Lindens only want those folks that have money to burn, and the rest of us are just fodder, so to speak.
I hope someone brings them to their senses - but if not I'll likely go find a less expensive "hobby". There's plenty I can do with an extra $375 a month.

The current Real Life Economy
10-28-2008 17:52
With people losing their jobs, the stock market in a downward spiral, and the world economy in a tailspin, it is just plain fucking astonishing that Linden Labs thinks they can get a 67% increase in fees for Open Sims. I'm self employed, and live from job to job. I calculated out what the fee was for an Open, and like EVERYONE else I budgeted for that. It's just plain idiocy from LL if they think that we are going to pay an increase of this amount.
We won't.
Damn it must really be irritating to be panting at the door of that huge payoff from your IPO and you just can't get the dollar numbers you need to cash in your shares like those Google Guys did!
What a world, what a world, what a world.
