Sometimes it helps to read the news page
![]() Quote: You'll notice the version number is 1.22.11... For residents using the Release Candidate, we have also simultaneously released an equivalent RC11 today with the same code. The only change from RC10 to RC11 is 1 critical and isolated crash fix for VWR-12274. (Thanks Emileigh Starbrook for finding that!) |

VWR-11860 - you can't click on attached prims in edit mode, if you're going to leave this hanging add a "touch" menu option to the edit menu for attached prims.

Since this was posted on the blog and not everyone can/will go there:
RC11 isn't really an RC, it's just a clone of 1.22 final so that people who prefer to stay on the RC track are up to date. So, the next "real" RC will probably be for the 1.23 series, when they get to that. |

All very unneventful for far it seems.
I'd like to ask a question (and this seems the best place) perhaps? Do I assue there are two (kinda) teams working on the SL client software? One tweaking and fixing bugs etc etc. the other actually working on new additions or major (more obvious though perhaps less critical bug fixes) I'm thinking (just for fun) I might put together my own person list of Blindingly obvious "In-You-Face" things that I personally would like to see fixed, and the kinda think even a Noob would spot after a few days on SL. There seems to very litte if any progress on anything like that. Just as a very simple example of what I mean. the Minimap (ok we know everything is a square but I''ll forgive it that, as it probably very hard to track prim shapes in real time.) No I mean the Avatar height (green arrow icon) fault. that shows you as below your current height when there are higher than you. This must be so so easy to fix, and yet, release candidate after release candidate. It never gets looked at. As I said, blindingly obvious bug that gets ignored. Back to my original query though......... Do I assume there IS actually a team working on these issues whilst the other team are just tweaking and tidying up the more elusive issues? |

The minimap arrow thing has a JIRA entry, it is http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6484
I believe it's waiting on a server-side change before it can display correctly. There actually already was a server-side update a year or so ago, but they had to back it out because the protocol change was overwhelming the servers. For more fun minimap junk see http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-11548 It really isn't just one or even two teams, but there are Lindens who periodically sift through the bug list and try to find nice things they can fix or add that won't take a lot of time, and try to sneak those in between the bigger projects. |

Thanks for the reply and links to the JIRA issue. Whoa.... That 1st one. Jeezz there are a LOT of requests for minimap changes. Anhd many of them would indeed be "icing on the mini-map cake" But the issue of My Avatar = 556m Other avatar = 3912m Hence show the up arrow would not be the most difficult thing to fix (compared to the other requests) Foolishly I am thinking well it used to work up to 800m ish fine, then they increaed the max height to 4000 ish, so it shoud just be a simple maths alteration. I guess not. ![]() |

Just for fun, here's the recap of the disaster surrounding the last attempt to update the minimap on the server side. there were lots more problems but the whole thing was entertainingly spectacular fail.

I will still admit to being totally baffled by the order and relevance of bug fix's.
It seems like we get a whole new version that fixes the bug where, when you stand on the corner of a medium sized table, balancing a german sausage on your nose and holding a glass of red wine in one hand (that's at least 5 years old) whistling the "Stars and Stripes", the day has a letter "S" in the word and it's under 10 degrees outside. Then you click thru 20 menu's and at the very end there's a tony glitch that's kinda annoying 5% of the time. Yet, we'll totally ignore other bugs that are IN YOUR FACE all the time during second life. As you say, BIG sticky lag for texture picker when editing prims. (for example) |

Texture Picker lags http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-8818 7 months - no solution. V1.20.17 was the last realy working viewer version. Yeah I really hope this gets fixed soon! None of the Lindens even communicate with us anymore on that Jira. The last test I saw reported is that it wasn't a problem on any OS but XP, if I remember correctly. If anyone has any ideas, please let the Lindens know on that Jira. Maybe that's what they're waiting for is some outside help. My delay was about 55 seconds to open the Open Person Chooser, Texture Picker and Open New Window. It's now a little less after bringing my inventory down to 34k from 46k, but still very bad. I keep hoping to see a fix everytime we have a new RC. |

I agree trying to build with the texture picker lag time - and often crashes - is just ridiculous. That it has gone on this long without fixing or even good information... well just not tolerable.
