THIS IS THE FORUM THREAD FOR DISCUSSION OF RC3!
[NOTE: I will be reading and checking this Thread once on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. When RC4 is released, this thread will be closed. Also, due to time constraints, I cannot promise to respond to other threads. -Ramzi Linden]

* * *

We are releasing the fourth iteration of the new Viewer 1.21 Release Candidate (RC3). Please help us to identify new bugs (and try out the new features) before it becomes an official download for Second Life.

If you have already been using the Release Candidate, you will now be required to update to RC3 with the latest bug fixes. But, participating in the Release Candidate viewers is completely optional. You may install this viewer side-by-side with the official 1.20 viewer that you normally use.

We have solved many more of the serious bugs that appeared in earlier iterations. This RC3 also includes the security patch as announced on the Status Report page, status.secondlifegrid.net.

A complete list of fixes for RC3 is available in the Full release notes page:
https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Release_Candidate/1.21

Please visit the Test Viewers page to download the 1.21 RC3:
http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php#download-Testviewers

Be sure to report new issues at jira.secondlife.com and set the "Affects Version/s" to "1.21 Release Candidate."

Still not fixed in 1.21 RC3:
PRIM_SCULPT_FLAG_MIRROR does not compile.
Should compile to 128 but gives a 'not defined in scope' error.

With RC3, i'm seeing a generally even frame rate with 1.20.16... But... Textures are epic slow loading, and for some reason, I get HEAVY FPS drops when some of the last-minute textures load. Especially for culled objects that fell out of cache. (>_<;)

/me votes and comments on that Jira and starts looking for the "slow texture rezzing one". (o.o)

Is the distortion in some of the characters in the File Edit View World menu that appeared with Catalyst 7.12 supposed to have been fixed? There's an old Jira issue that is marked fixed internally or some such.

I just installed Catalyst 8.9 in hopes of making Hardware Skinning and Avatar Cloth not be greyed out, which it did, but the distorted menu text reappeared.

Delays in keystokes when editing Mono scripts...
09-28-2008 18:16
If mono scripts exist only on the server and are no longer transmitted to the client for editing, does this mean that when editing a 'script' all keyboard stokes are processed by the server itself?

This would explaing the 5 to 20 second delays between entering keyboard characters while editing on a busy (overloaded) sim.

I've never had delays when editing LSL scripts, but on mono I can type two complete sentences of code before I'm able to see it on screen.

Makes for software development very tedious.

I don't think that's the way it works. The script probably only gets sent to the server when you click Save.

Texture loading is very very slow.

Using search functions makes me crash occaisionally.

Gamma setting was way off (bright) it was set to 1 but when slider was moved and put back to 1 it was ok. (That setting is not easy to find and fix btw)

Frame rate seems ok but it still eats my RAM until I crash

There was talk in the now-closed RC2 thread about the 2 chat bars behaving differently. I tried to reproduce this last night but neither gestures nor scripts seemed to care which one I typed in.

If somebody has a reliable test case for where one chat bar behaves differently than the other, I'd be happy to write up a JIRA.

I don't think so - maybe related somehow but I think it's different.

The one I looked at started around post 79 in /349/de/281556/4.html

From: someone
some chat-line driven attachments will only work when the command is given in the lower chat line (I've had this problem with some objects too).

Right clicking an avatar at a distance (~100m) and doing any of the pie selections (profile, IM, etc.) is no longer possible. Is this deliberate? Or, I hope, a mistake that will be corrected soon?

This may be "Avatar Impostor" associated. Have you tried turning this feature off?

sudden disconnects
09-30-2008 02:04
After about one hour, i hear the "ping" of a popup, then the viewer crashes. I look in the logfiles and find "You have been disconnected from SecondLife.".
Happening on a regular basis with RC3 on Linux, seemingly when i cross many sim borders (using a vehicle).

First of all, thanks for fixing the crash on right click!

Secondly. Not sure what you have done, but I am now getting at least an extra 4-5fps in most areas. Other areas show increase of 10fps and more. I'm now using Anti aliasing and Anisotropic filtering for the first time for the same framerate.

Now if you could fix the pausing bug that would be fantastic! It is the only bug I am currently experiencing for this release.

As with previous RCs, it's still not possible to compile a script using Mono unless the script is in an object. 'ssupwiddat?

I'm forced to edit scripts in object inventory rather than from my avatar inventory.
