Hi. I had never any serious problems with SL viewers. Today I was suddenly out of SL. No crash message or something. And since then my SL viewer isn't connecting anymore. Actually I'm using Second_Life_1-23-4-123908 and it's now a brandnew install. It starts loading, but after the window "initializing texture cache" appeared it doesn't continue. No error message. It just dies. Right now I'm using the Hippo viewer. It loads and connects without problems. Everything works fine. So it's not a connection or hardware problem. Anyone has an idea what maybe wrong? Update. I found the reason. New installing isn't of course enough. I forgot the fact that there is a also a folder SecondLife in Application Datas. Shame on me. Anyway, something in this folder was probably corrupted. After deleting the folder and creating a new one, the SL viewer is working again.

Possible partial salution to the 123 version of SL

The main reason why nothing works in this new update is because some idiot thought to be sneaky and migrated SL's cache folderto a new location and forgot to code in all the calls to the other parts of the client in the installer.
Lindens moved the cache folder from; Docoments and settings\admin\app data\SL\cache TO; Docoments and settings\admin\local Settings\SL where SL is the new name for the cache folder.
IMO; I suggest making a new folder in the old area name it cache and then copy the contents of the migrated cache in local settings back to the old location so now you have 2 cache folders. Then try SL again and see if it helps.

What's the details of this two cache folder news? Which viewers use which cache? It sounds like he's saying some parts of the SLviewer are still looking in the old cache location, and if it's not there a connection can't be made. Is that correct? I haven't had that problem, though.

I just clicked Clear Group Cache in the RC, relogged, and it said it was clearing it but went right to the login screen. Everything is still in my cache folder at C:\Documents and Settings\name\Application Data\Second Life\cache. In SL Preferences that's where it says my cache is, but without the folder name of cache on the end. I don't know what the heck the cache clearer was clearing in just 2 seconds.
*update* Ok I found what it cleared....C:\Documents and settings\name\Local Settings\Application Data\Second Life. It cleared the cache that was there that didn't have a folder and cleared everything out of the texture folder and subfolders but left all the empty folders and 3 other files.
Are we supposed to have a different location for the cache for each different viewer we use or try out? I use RC but when I can't afford to crash so much I use Cool Viewer or Hippo Viewer. I don't even have the newest live viewer installed.

group cache isn't the same as the cache from the network tab of the preferences window (dunno if it is inside of it, or elsewhere), that just wipes cached data about groups, the stuff you see inside the group info window and such
