Hello everyone,

First off, please forgive me if this is not the right place to post this, please redirect me if I should be somewhere else.

Let me start by describing the problem. I installed the latest candidate viewer, however when I try to run it, the window containing Second Life viewer is simply white. If I minimize and restore the screen it turns black. I believe I can interact with the interface but I can't obvioulsy see this. I surmised this from my changing mouse icon as I discovered while moving over the white/black window.

These are the specs for my personal computer:
-Windows 7 RC 64-bit (OS)
-Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 graphics card
-4gb Corsair dominator RAM
-ASUS PQ5 motherboard
If you need more details than that please indicate so...

Here are some things I've already tried in an attempt to fix this. I have tried running it in all the many different compatability modes there are available in Windows 7 includings XP, Vista, administrative and others. I've updated all my drivers with the latest ones available (as some forums indicated I should) but still to no avail. I also search this forum for people with similar problems but I did not find anyone with the same problem. In addition, I've tried using a different viewer, with exactly the same problem.

If I had to guess what the problem is, I would say it has something to do with my graphics card, either the openGL support or that the drivers don't support some features in the Second Life viewer.

If anyone knows what the problem could possibly be or better yet, how to fix it, please shed some light as I'm fresh out of ideas...

I'm having the same problem. Been through a series of fix attempts and finally got in touch with a ticket only to be told that my present graphics card is not supported by SL. :(

Thing is that it was working just fine only two weeks ago...no hassles! So frustrating. I thought that SL had did an automatic check of your specifications when you download the latest version, and set your settings to a lower level if necessary to support older devices or hardware?

I wonder if there is any way to go back to a previous SL Version that supports older graphics card, as I can't afford to upgrade just yet (whole computer needs an upgrade really).

Be interested to know how you get on.

I'd try the regular version rather than the release candidate. I believe there isn't at present a release candidate that's newer than the current regular version. Release candidates, when they are newer than the current main version, aren't guaranteed to be more stable than the regular version. They may have new bugs in them. They are test versions, hence the word "candidate" in the name.

I'd also try turning of Aeroglas, or whatever the fancy transparent windows thing is called in Windows 7.

There are a number of alternate viewers available. You could try the Snowglobe version from Linden Lab, or third party viewers like Greenlife Emerald, Cool Viewer, Rainbow Viewer, Nicholas viewer, Kirsten's viewer, etc.

When describing versions, it's a lot more useful to include the complete exact version number instead of a phrase like "the latest".

The alternate viewer page in the SL wiki can be found at

Sorry about that SuezanneC, next time I have a problem I'll be sure to post the version of the viewer I am using as well.

That aside I would just like to say thank you very much!

I installed Snowglobe after reading your advice, however that still didn't work. So I moved on and I turned off aero glass, and now it works! ^_^

I can't believe that that was the problem, at any rate here the URL where you can learn how to disable Aero Glass if you're having the same problem...

Thanks again for the help!
