Another unuseable viewer I certainly hope you do not shove this down our throats like you have with many others nor ready for prime time. Point one no you have not fixed the black land under water problem it is still there but the turn off local lights works , a joke work around. But, then why use windlight (atmospheric nomenclature now) as it is a massive lag pit for most users. You have created a new subtle problem in what I call graphic clipping. Set your view to 512 on a good island then fly to 500 meters and watch the curve of clipping as you zoom out makes an interesting pattern but not what I expect in a graphical game. You might want to shove the age verification down oue throats but after 5 years of this abisimal crap I grow tired of your feeble attemts to improve the game/ Oh yes, the game has greatly improved from the dirt walk days of late 04 and early 05 but you have not grown exponentially as one would or might expect with experience. Still the same crap repeated at a higher level with various forms of lag. Oh and if you think we can not tell when you are playing with the grid we can performance goes to hell when you are diddling with the structure.

I have a suggestion take your hands off the game for 30 days and let us enjoy it for a change I have suggested this before but you do not seem to comprehend that we do enjoy this game and that if you kept your tweeking hands off of it for awhile you would benefit from the good press.

My kids used to bitch at me about tweeking the projection system that I own for movies they enjoyed them without my technical interuptions hint normal people will and can enjoy a system that gives them something they are not used to seeing no matter what you as technitions think. Keep your damn hands out of the soup for awhile, Normal people have no enjoyment created by brain dead engineers. Leave it alone for awhile and see what happens. An engineer, craftsman, creator will play wioth the creation until removed from their possetion. Time to remove this toy from them and allow it to mature.

Oh one more salient point

QUIT CHANGING THINGS THAT WORK THATS TOTALLY 3rd grade crap you have plenty of other ways to justify your jobs than doing busy work. Busy work is cause for termination, well in most real companys why change the pie chart we have used it for years and no some ass kleenex decides it is time to change QUIT QUIT QUIT making yourselves look like first level programmers. Total lack of control is the image you portray but whats new about that since ver 6.0 you have used the uninformed )) just like the alternate skin that was shouted down and is now the alternate skin some choice

Oh yes I know we are at the AOL level of interface now but there are individuals who have common sense use them as they are the path to your fruition.

iN CLOSING you people do some of the most bone headded things I have ever seen is a game that is the bleeding edge wake up an realize there is no one else out there Blue mars is just another 3d chat room

I would like to see an option to leave people behind in technology, perhaps then we could leave people at one end of the grid running their clubs & stores in sims happily running SL v1.0 on their Win95 586 PC's while people at the other end have Mac's, sculpties, flexiprims, voice, windlight and open sourced viewers.

The new viewer is working pretty good for me. The only crashes I get are from running SL in ULTRA, shadows on and too many back ground programs going.
The new tech I love, the tiny little tweaks to the UI ~~ WTF are you thinking???

Runs better for me with this version than any since I upgraded my video card. Had to disable
something in hardware to get it to work, but eh I like this version so far. Only time I crash is when playing with shadows and lighting. Can we actually talk about what you like instead of the things that you disapprove.

The Live 1.23.4 was crashing me like crazy for no reason. I could just be standing or sitting or in the middle of typing in chat or an IM and boom...crash to desktop. That went on since I did the optional update. And yes, I did try uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of times. I finally uninstalled it and installed in its place Boy Lane's 1.19 Cool Viewer instead. But today I decided to try the 1.23.4 RC again that I reinstalled. No crashes! I've been going for hours and hours. All I did different, and I'm not suggesting anyone do this....was delete the user-settings folder that Boy Lane says to delete when changing viewers. I have always deleted the cache and temp folder recommended at the SL site but never the user_settings. I don't know if that's what helped my RC....don't know if the RC accesses that file or just the Live Viewer does. I also, but I always do this, ran Microsoft's free online OneCare scanner clean-up to clean up the registry (takes 4 minutes) between installations. I haven't tried the Live 1.23.4 again. Will when I get a chance to uninstall Cool Viewer 1.19 and install the Live 1.23.4.

There is little to like when you can not experience the enjoyment of play. Lag has been almost as bad as the mud walk days of 05. Hit fly and float till the servers catch up with the action, cross a sim barrier and fly for 30 seconds, open a texture window and wait. open a second inventory window and go get a drink, open a search window for a texture on an object it fails 50 to 75% of the tiem and if you do not know where it is good luck.

As far as the comment about people playing on 586's and win 95 I doubt that the game will function on that hardware. But, then you can run the standard video card the game was designed around and have black land under water also, be it a card driver or the lack of implementation in the game.

The major problem lately has been the significant lag observed by anyone in the game. If you do not see it you are camping

This type of lag sounds like network problems. I've been doing a lot of flying around to see how bad the lag and crashing are. I keep the stats bar open the whole time and the only lag I get is when my network is completely maxing out. My crashes come when I turn on shadowing and leave it on for awhile (10+ minutes.) What is your packet loss? If its high that will kill your client.

Do you have that lag if you turn all shaders off Coventina? I used to be able to use Basic and Bump Mapping and Shiny easily and the others I'd use from time to time, mainly for picture taking. But when I had to leave 1.20 for 1.22, that's when I could no longer use any without lagging badly. I just figured it's a bug that'll be worked out eventually.

lag depends on your location and isp. I experinace lag a lot and my friend does not. we have the same provider but i live in a dense populated area and my friend does not.

But then again when i play eve online there is no noticeble lag. So another factor is lindens hardware and connections. I do for sure know its not my hardware that is to blame.

Lag is an issue, always has been and I just sort of accept it to a degree.

But Conventina's point about the changes made to the pie chart is exactly right! I just upgraded to the new viewer and the pie chart is FUBAR. You've moved everything around and added Gestures to it? What were you thinking? NO ONE uses gestures in that way! Are you so totally divorced from the SL experience that you don't see this?

For the sake of my sanity, please PLEASE put things back as they were and stop making pointless changes that do nothing to increase user enjoyment and only serve to irritate!

New Viewer Lag
06-20-2009 08:42
I spend most of my time on my quarter-sim homestead land and have never experienced lag before until I downloaded the new viewer. I have used it a varying times of the day and it is still laggy. Weird jerking around your sim when you are the only one on it.

After testing for a few days I also think that 1.23.4 is definately more laggy. Especially avatars are cloudy much longer. Yesterday I got my first Blue Screen of Death (Vista 64 bit), never had that before with 1.22.

Halp... is there anywhere I can DL the previous viewer, this latest one sucks and I need something I can just double click to install, I looked at Nicholaz's but its all about moving files here and there and it mentions moving files to places. I just need something to click and it installs it!

Optional is the key word here. From what I read there's going to be no forced update and adult content settings are stored per account not per viewer so you can use an RC or whatever, set that you want to see adult and/or mature and/or PG and then go back to your regular viewer and do everything normally within those settings so if you set all options on you'll see no difference. This definitely isn't LL's best viewer but people shouldn't treat it like they were forcing this on people.

For some this wont matter one lil bit... but you need the laggy 1.23 client to access adult SL. My entire SL experience is adult stuff... Now I will loose that till there is a client released that has the adult code (to search with adult terms, show adult status, visit adult sims).

Many of us are totally screwed on our SL experience.

I have now spent over 20 hours reading forums, blogs, wikis, etc for some way I can improve my SL experience and still run the 1.23 client... that is 20 hours of total failure so far. every thing I have tried, read, etc, no help whatsoever.

Thanks LL

Yeah, older viewers should be fine. In a few weeks some search nerfing is scheduled. Older viewers will still be able to get to adult land, but adult search results may go missing.
