I updated to this veiwer but it will not load sl. I get a crash error.

I have to uninstall sl and reinstall it just to get logged on.

I corrected registry errors and did a fully clean start but for some reason it will not open back up for me unless I uninstall it.

I get this new viewer, after I got a new vista ultimate installed.

now, after a few minutes in SL, everything and everyone turns into a black sillohuette.

I ended up formatting hard drive and reinstall Vista. Could not figure out the problem but after the fresh install, everything is working..

Hope you got yours to run also.

My problem with the viewer
09-13-2009 08:30
I bought a new computer a week ago and since then my SL Viewer does not work properly.

The typescript has a delay of at least a second before it appears to me on my screen and the movements of myself and everyone else jerks around as if there is a frame or two missing.

The Lag Meter tells me that my Client is operating at less than 10 frames.

In wandering around Google and SL webpages, I've noticed that there is a history of problems with Second Life and my graphics card, ATI Radeon. However the problems are supposedly fixed, but my specific graphics card ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics/ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series is not even mentioned anywhere - on SL, on the ATI website, on the AMD website (the computer is an AMD Phenom 9650 quad core processor with 4 GB of RAM).

Surely someone in SL/Linden Labs must be aware of the problem and are working on a solution - aren't they?

Melanie

P.S. Before someone suggests it, I've already downloaded that lastest ATI Driver - driver 8.9

@Melanie
You disabled PM and emails here. So I post a link here that may help you. LL and ATI do not go well together and there is no fix in sight although promised over and over again.

Um, which is it: An HD3200? Or something in the HD4800-series? It makes a huge world of difference!

If SL is resembling a slide show to you, then I'm going to assume you have an HD3200. That would make sense, since the 3200 is a bottom-level budget IGP (read: integrated graphics). IGPs are terrible 3D performers largely because of their shared memory architecture. Your graphics chip does not have its own dedicated video memory; therefore, it has to share your computer's system memory. System memory is generally slower than dedicated video memory to start with; but when your chip has to compete with your sound card, your network card, and everything else on the PCI bus, and wait its turn for access to your memory, 3D performance is going to suck. Simply put: There are way too many textures moving around, and too many transform operations occuring within SL for an IGP to have any hope of keeping up.

Given the rest of your computer's specifications, it may be possible to get SL limping along at a reasonable framerate by setting all of your graphics settings in the SL viewer to their absolute lowest settings, and stay out of sight of large groups of people. Other than that, I'm afraid your only real option is to upgrade your system with a dedicated graphics card.
