2 Questions from a Newbie

Being quite new here, I really only have 2 questions I would like to address. One would seem important to myself and other newbies, the other may not be important, but I would like to address it anyways.

1. Is there anything SL is doing for the newbies who would wish to actually start a business or do something productive to earn Linden? How I have seen it since I started a week or so ago, there is just about umpteen businesses for just about every category, and they get priced sooo low with their sales, the only thing you would even have a CHANCE at making a profit with a business is a Casino, which is something that doesn't really interest me at all. The only other route I have seen is to buyu and sell land, but I myself don't have a few thousand dollars to shell out to buy an island to section off and sell like some players may be able to do. I have attempted a texture store, but with all these places selling various textures at like $L1 each, its like Wal-Mart is to the real world. Its hard to be competitive in a world thats already at its lowest pricings to where you would be lucky to break even at all.

2. Is there any efforts to work on instability of scripts in items and lag? This is the question I think that may not be important, but I've noticed happening in several places. I have played in a few Casino's in the game, and have noticed similar problems in each one on different items. You'll be winning fine and getting your payouts, then all of a sudden, you could be winning and there is a slight lag problem and you never get paid out for your winnings. I've lost a few thousand due to this happening and the only responses you would get from the Casino is sorry, it's not our fault and your SoL. Can you actually put something in where it would track the users winnings from an item? I think this would be a very handy tool or feature for players who have encountered this problem legitly and not trying to scam someone by saying they did lose money and actually didn't. This way, the log of an item saying yes, this player did indeed win can be compared to the avatar's transaction logs to see if it was actually paid out. Just a suggestion that can go to the bottom of the list. :D

There are things posted on the login screen about teaching courses, and there's nothing to stop you using the search events feature to find something. By and large Linden Labs don't get involved in the day-to-day because doing so might show favouritism to one organisation or company. Making a profit isn't as hard as it seems, though, with being able to run a small vendor system and SLExchange offering a "no sell, no commission" method of selling things. Even rented land allows you to use an SLExchange box, and there are no vendors fees for it. All you have to do is find some niche that very few other people are building things for. That's the only part that isn't as easy as it sounds.

When an item pays you, it pays you on behalf of a person. If that transaction goes awry, then you should be able to get the person it was made on behalf of to verify that it took place. If it was lost due to lag (for example, on their account webpage it says it paid you x amount on y date) then Linden Labs can then be approached to make the refund. If it doesn't say on their account that they paid you, then their item didn't, and I don't think LL will want to get involved... it would be up to you to settle that with the owner of the item concerned, or not to use that persons items again. Editing an item will tell you who it belongs to.

Stay away from the casinos, you will lose everything. They have no lag taking your money, but doesn't it seem strange that the lag only happens when your owed money? It's deliberate. Happened to me. I no longer visit casinos, its a big rip.

My response to number 1 would be stop thinking of sl as a way to make money at first. Play the game because you love it, get a feel for the game. After you learn all of your basics you'll learn what sl skills your good at and what would be a perfect sl trade for you. It'll happen, just don't force it.
