Hi,
last night, after a friend told me that she's living near a really large body of open water, i had a look on my map, and wow, at least 10 connected sims of open water, cool. So i took my trucordia yawl and headed there.
Wow. The vast expanse of ocean waiting for me. Only one small drawback: rezzing not allowed, scripts not allowed.
Isn't that a total waste of processing power, setting up several servers to provide a large body of water, just so that people can _fly across it_ and nothing else?
Oh, did i mention, owner's "governor linden".
On a not totally unrelated sidenote, most of the road network on mainland's owned by linden labs as well, and also set to no-rez,no-script. My ironhead black widow custom harley doesn't like that at all.

Yes; with auto-return allowed, and also set it to a group that can then collaboratively fill out the roads that haven't been done yet, or repair existing ones that look crap.

just happened again. sailed right into a largish group of "open water sims" owned by gov linden and set to noscript.
them lindens can just call themself very lucky that beaching doesnt damage your boat in here or they'd be very liable now.

Absolutely vote yes.. And safe/no-push with autoreturn less than 30 minutes.
Anybody friendly with Jack or Guy? If people who care about this collected a bunch of slurls for LL land that doesn't comply with the 'standard' settings and stuffed them into a notecard, I wonder if they'd take it and start fixing them up.. Seems like LL is usually pretty reasonable if you put the effort into making life easier for them.

Following up my own post.. See also: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-326 "Governor Linden owned parcels do not have uniform parcel settings which allows griefers to create parcel infringing and other objectionable objects that are not affected by auto-return." edit: go vote for this issue.. more votes = more attention. From: Torley Are there some particularly problematic parcels? I know this issue comes up from time to time and I do believe we have a more automatic way to set parcel settings, but in some cases, there's existing content that needs to be inspected first. Please clearly provide SLURLs to a shortlist of parcels if so desired and email me, torley at lindenlab dot com. I can show this to our Land Management Team if we have more details as to what we can target and act on. Thanks! Notice that Torley says "shortlist" instead of "a notecard with 17,000 slurls in it".

While they certainly do need to set up some places along roadsides and waterways where one can rez a vehicle, all that should be needed on the roads and waterways themselves is to be able to enter them and have your scripts still work. For example, there is a full-sim lake SE of the Magenta sim. You can't rez a boat *in* the sim, but you CAN rez one in the waterways leading *to* the lake, and sail out into the lake.
If they allowed rezzing on the roads and waterways, they will also have to set a pretty fast auto-return for any prims that are not an in-motion vehicle, or the griefers will block all the roads with prims and freebie vehicles.

It use to be allowed, until folks abused it for grid attacks. The sims are now used for buffer zones. 9I use to sail all over SL in my boat back in 2005-2006

Would it help to set up small launch zones? Would that help prevent griefing in any way?
