I'm right up there with other residents that are deeply frustrated about the top issues of Inventory Loss, Teleport Issues, and Group / Friends Lists problems.
There is another area SL that is suffering right now that is not getting any attention due to their subtle nature. Specifically sound effects. There are two major bugs in the JIRA tracking system related to sounds. The most noticable one is JIRA VWR-291.
Sound files are often not downloaded
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-291
Sounds clips are being randomly (and VERY frequently) aborted during transfer. The SL client inserts dead silence in it's place and continues on it's way. The clip is never re-queried or downloaded. The silence will always be played if that asset is triggered. The only way to get the clip to re-download is to dump cache and restart... but then you get a whole NEW set of clips that are aborted and playing silence!
This affects all sound clips in scripted gizmos, vehicles, and weapons from what I can tell. It is very easily reproduced now. Several individuals have been raising the urgency of this issue, along with adding JIRA votes (as requested by the Lindens!) and we are still awaiting some form of official response or ETA for a fix.
If the SL client re-queried failed asset transfers the next time the clip is triggered, instead of inserting dead silence and covering things up, this could be resolved in short order.
Finally, as a customer service frustration, trying to escalate this issue through Customer Support was infuriating. It took over a month and several emails, before receiving even an acknowledgement that the issue was received... and that was back on 4/18.
I don't want to be all doom and gloom on LL... Torley Linden has been VERY proactive on the JIRA site asking for certain pieces of information and steps to help the Developer's recreate the problem. If it wasn't for Torley, I'm pretty sure several people would've just given up.
The residents being affected by these problems are more than willing to assist in the triage and investigation to help the Development teams. But when we are met by complete silence, no acknowledgements, and not even a rough ETA for a solution..... you wind up with an Open Letter from dissatisfied residents. I continue to believe that SL has amazing potential in many many different areas, and I hope the concerns that the community is brining forward will have some positive results.
Thanks!
