How many hours in an SL day, Lindens?

Hello,

I'm working on an inworld analogue clock, but to finish my design I need to know how long a full day lasts in Second Life. I know it runs on PST but in all sims the environment cycles through day and night over a shorter period of time than that. Could somebody tell me how long that period lasts?

It's a four hour cycle, so there are six SL days in a real world day.

There is an LSL function that might make this easier, depending on what you are up to:

In some private sims, the sun is fixed in place, so you might want to take that possibility into account.

Three hours of daytime and one hour of night, meaning in a real-world 24-hour day, there are six Second Life days.

The problem is that the day/night cycle in SL has no real relation to clock time.

SL runs on a 24 hour day, and uses Pacific time (GMT-8, or -7 when it's Daylight Savings Time in the USA). That's the time you use for posting notices of events, etc.

The standard day/night cycle is three hours of daylight, one hour of night, so there are six sidereal days for every calendar day in SL.

Unless there aren't. On private estates, the estate owner can set the sidereal time. So in some horror/vampire sims, it's ALWAYS midnight. On the Help Islands, it's always noon.
