Why the sudden SL Mentor recruitment drive (visible at all welcome areas and numerous infohubs) when you already have a backlog of applications going back five months at least? :)

The volunteer program is in the revamping process and in the extremely capable hands of Blue Linden. For this reason, you will probably see many changes surrounding volunteering and mentoring in the coming weeks. Also, see Robin's blog post and subsequent comment on volunteers for more info: http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/04/26/introducing-liaison-specialist-teams/.

thanks for the response Heretic. I was going to wipe my post afterwards, thinking this isn't really an open letter issue and shouldn't be taking up valuable town hall time*, but no need now. I'm not sure how I missed that comment by Robin; probably something to do with walls of mainly off-topic comments giving me headaches. ;)

but anyway. question answered. thanks again. :)

*why do i always write first, think later? #-o

A response I got from Blue Linden suggest the time frame might be better expressed as "coming months" than as "coming weeks".

As I'm intimating in other threads today, I think that, in addition to front-loading maximum amount of anecdotal experience and user-friendly knowledge, there is another critical component to ensuring that you Linden folks and us are all on the same page...

And that is, the idea that also critical to minimizing user dissatisfaction is the establishment of a vehicle by which you get regular feedback of the most constructive, most resident-perspective kinds. There are a number of really terrific, open, constructive, intelligent, focused (and relatively objective) folks I keep running across as I seine across these forum threads...quiet yet sound voices in the midst of chaos, often.

My advice would be for you to approach these people about formation of a Residents' Advisory Panel, or whatever you choose to call it, that would be the equivalent of the "head sessions" you have with your sim owners, etc., but intended to view potential issues/problems/concerns/compliments/adulations/whatever strictly from the 'individual resident' point of view. This is an *invaluable resource* not being capitalized on, at least so far as I can see, in any concerted, organized, time-efficient manner.
